George Floyd Police killing and protests
Moderator: bbmods
There will be no shootout with police - they were a little sensitive, it seems, to the general criticism from the city council and abandoned their posts.
There may be a showdown with Trump and the National Guard, if he’s stupid enough to send them in (and, yes, of course he is). It’ll be like the end of the Trojan Wars - that is, Trump will win the fight and the electorate will only remember what was done to a bunch of decent, courageous people making a stand.
Meanwhile, one can only admire the thoroughgoing hypocrisy of the allegedly “libertarian” fascists weeping in their undies at the thought of actual libertarians liberating themselves.
As you say, we can live in hope.

Yeah, it'll be Seattle and Portland, maybe somewhere in California. Minneapolis maybe.
Latest news from the CHEZ is that homeless people rolled in and stole all their food. Not the best start to a glorious communist revolution.
It all seems to be an attempt to get Trump to enact the Insurrection Act but he's so far been very restrained. As for them being libertarians (where the **** could anyone possibly get that idea), no, they're Communists. They're about as far from libertarians as you can get.

The authoritarian gun-toting right thinks that “liberty” is freedom to push other people with different opinions around. That spun OK in 1968 Transcendent horrors like setting the National Guard on your own citizens tend to look very bad when light is shone on them. In the age of social media wall to wall footage putting the lie to official versions of such events from liars in the police and liars in the White House, it will be interesting to see how a Trump National Guard mobilisation spins in the US public mind.

Sanders, for what it’s worth, supports paying cops more:

(Personally, I think it’s possible to support increasing police officers’ pay while decreasing overall police budgets spent on weaponry, etc, and it’s an approach I’d support too. But obviously this is all a long way from the "abolish police" movement’s demands.)

Drunk in the drivers seat, resisted arrest stole a taser, tried to taser the cop and ran away, This guy definitely deserves a heroes funeral like Floyd got.
you can’t see what happens when he’s shot, I wonder why they didn’t wing him.
He could have de escalated the situation at several points. Could the cops? 2 were struggling to control him. In fact they failed to. I don’t know if he deserved to die, but he’s no innocent victim.
And since Floyd died, how many black men have died at the hands of another black man? Or don’t their lives matter?
It’s not cops doing all the damage, the Floyd one was definitely a rogue cop, but until something changes with the gun culture and the rich/poor ratio this will keep happening.
Certainly there is still a very real problem with racism, more so in certain states, I find it mind boggling that people think a persons colour determines their worth, certainly in this day and age.
