Raw Hammer wrote:...and how did Howe not get that holding the man call on the wing/boundary when he was dumped to the ground without the ball just seconds prior to him destroying his knee? How??? F these umpires, in particular #12. It’s deplorable.
Sliding door moment
Pay the free, we win the game and go on to be Premiers
Free not paid, Howe has catastrophic injury, lose the game and won’t be premiers.
Another season will play out the same again for Buckley and this administration. Time to peel back the layers and piss off all the rot otherwise we will continue to remain in the wilderness.

Correct weight: I was yelling out in my lounge room without effect it seems. I may have startled my Essendon supporting wife while she was enduring my expletives and distress while being on the net!

Even more important than the result, if the free had been paid, Jeremy would not have suffered such an injury. The game would have taken a different path.

What does that mean in terms of potential to recover?
I don't know the answer to that.
Buckley didn't sound confident he would be returning any time soon.
Rehab can take up to 12 months for a PCL, according to various internet sites, complicated as it is by a second ligament injury. We will have to re-manufacture our back line for the remainder of the season. His leadership down back will be irreplaceable. He was in AA form. It's simply tragic for Howie.
Not that this had anything to do with his injury, but the ground surface looked shocking. Way too loose under the surface layer.
Grundy needs to be less predictable with that dinky 2 handed tap down. It never works . Cox needs to clunk some marks. The ground tonight was hardly AFL standard. More divots than me on a golf course after 20 cans.

Turn it up, take out Maynards clustercluck and we would have won, despite poor kicking for goal, jeez, it was only 2 lousy points, against a GF team on their own ground, look at the cats last week, lost to the lowly Blues on their own ground. imagine how they felt.
Poverty exists not because we cannot feed the poor, but because we cannot satisfy the rich.
Chess and Vodka are born brothers. - Russian proverb.
Hear a few of the players talk about the hurt of last years PF. Yet it seems we took nothing away from that loss. Our mids to Grundy hitting taps to the opposition, forwards not taking their chances, Sidey and the tag and what you do with him when he is tagged out of the game.
It’s not so much the loss but losing in the same manner that’s the killer.
Human behavioural studies suggest people who use a lot of swear words tend to be more honest & trustworthy.
As most have said, we lost that game, kicked ourselves out of it.
Checkers, De Goey, Mayne and C.Brown should have kicked goals. And then we would not need a plan b.
Maynard has a dirty game and was clearly rattled by how good Greene was playing with out his kick and Moore’s miss handball that led to goals. We would be celebrating another good defensive effort. I’m sure I’ve missed another one or two times we gifted them a goal.
Gws were first to the ball nearly all game, was frustrating to see. They put pressure on us and we crumble and forget how to handball...
Howe’s injury is a huge loss... hopefully whoever we bring in can help Moore and Roughead out.
Disappointing to lose a game that that was within our grasp to win. An all too familiars story for the Collingwood.

So we might not see Howe until mid way through 2021. Fantastic. For an act he probably didn’t need to do. Sometimes, I just wish players would hold back and not ruin their bodies.

Spot on,That was appalling umpiring and it’s probably cost Howe the rest of this season.
No point speculating over Howe's injury. If it's an MCL/PCL which doesn't require surgery (and many don't) he could be looking at anywhere from 6 - 16 weeks. Definitely not time to write his season off yet, although he might be cutting it fine for finals.
Other than that, a disappointing night but certainly not as negative as some on here are suggesting. We've drawn and lost by two points to last year's grand final sides. We're right up there.
