Massive spike in demand for masks leads to sale restrictions

"Bunnings placed temporary restrictions on masks, limiting customers to 10 packs each. Director of merchandise Phil Bishop said store teams were working to keep shelves well stocked.

Elsewhere, customers were snapping up packs of masks ranging from packs of 10 single-use face masks at Chemist Warehouse for $12.99 to 50-packs of similar masks at Woolworths for $40.

Mitre10 was selling packs of five N95 masks or 10 disposable masks, costing $25 and $15 respectively."

I went whilst the press conference was still going on Friday and bought some from Chemist Warehouse and the local chemist. Local chemist ones look a lot better than cheapo CW masks, so kept them for myself and gave the others to family

But I probably won't use them unless absolutely necessary, just thought it better to get them before it becomes impossible to get and the government or some businesses decide to make it mandatory at some point.

My 21 year old daughter is currently awaiting her test results. Trying to be upbeat and positive but you try to tell a father not to worry!!

All the best mate, it’s not fun waiting and even when you think it’s ok, there is that slight doubt in the back of your mind.

Test results came back overnight and all good. We weren't worried in the slightest, but I think the whole episode will take any complacency out of our minds when outside.

By way of comparison, the Victorian positive result rate on tests is under 1% and I don’t think it’s been over 1% since mid-April.

The US' 7-day rolling average number of new cases per day has now passed 60,000 (60,114). That's 420,798 new confirmed cases in the past 7 days.

Yesterday's increase included 15,300 new confirmed cases in Florida alone.

There are now just three states with fewer deaths than Victoria's 24: Alaska (17), Hawaii (19) and Wyoming (21). The total population of those three states
(roughly Wyoming 580,000, Alaska 735,000, Hawaii 1,420,000) is about 2,735,000, less than half Victoria's population, and the total number of deaths across the 3 states is 57, more than twice that of Victoria.

Indiana, which has a population comparable to Victoria, has had a total of 51,612 confirmed cases, 2,760 deaths and, as I type, 10,229 active cases.

Andrew Crisp actually made a request for 1000 ADF personnel for quarantine and it was rejected by either Neville or Andrews.

As for security companies, allegedly one of the companies isn’t even on the governments approved contractors list!

As for the cold, I pretty much live with cold symptoms all throughout every winter and was quite bad when the initial outbreak began in March. It’s only because of the travel I eventually reluctantly agreed to get tested.

Only hope the results come back before I leave, but ordering food on Uber Eats is far too damn expensive and it’s been 2 days!
