There is certainly a lot more people wearing masks but there is also a whole lot more cars on the road than there was last lockdown so I am a bit concerned this will not end well.
Andrews mentioned something about possibly extending beyond the 6 weeks, which could be his undoing because the amount of people saying 'phuck off" will increase and it will be hard to maintain control. Possibility of Stage 4 lockdowns were also mentioned, and I think that may be a better approach if it is short-lived (2-3 weeks).

The numbers are ugly but not growing exponentially.....yet.
I still think one Minnesota cop's actions and the inability of Governments to say no has driven complacency around COVID.
Once Government's allowed BLM rallies it was always going to be hard for them to get people to take social distancing as seriously ever again.

So exactly how did the government "allow" BLM rallies?
Please be precise in your answer, and do not neglect the known facts, in particular that the Victorian BLM protest was (a) opposed and discouraged by both state and federal governments, and (b) much, much smaller than the rallies in the other states.

https://www.news.com.au/national/victor ... 976f5cd0f8There is no official guide that outlines what measures would be taken if Victoria went to stage 4 restrictions but places like New Zealand have previously introduced what it called level 4 restrictions.
These were aimed at eliminating the coronavirus and included the closure of schools and other educational facilities, and the closure of businesses except essential services such as supermarkets, pharmacies and medical clinics.
Doesn't seem to be much likelihood of police welding people into their homes or snipers on the roof taking out people who venture into the open, even at Defcon 4.

I'm not sure how widely acknowledged this is, but seems that promiscuous security guard origin story for lockdown II is at best questionable and at worst totally unfounded.

If there’s one thing all of us “know” about the COVID-19 breakout in Victoria it’s that it all started with a bonking security guard (or maybe guards) at a city hotel where recent overseas arrivals were housed. Right?
[…]
From what I can trace back, the bonking allegation broke surface with a talkback radio caller who seemed to have heard something from someone. Then The Herald Sun solidified it in print (or, online text at least) with a report on the rumours. Later that day, the Daily Mail amplified the report and, with that, it slipped into the round-ups of the unfolding breakout. It was added as a throwaway line in joking commentary.
The mystery of the bonking security guard (or guards) has now been quietly hand-balled over to the judicial inquiry into Melbourne’s hotel quarantine program. It disappeared from this past weekend’s COVID-19 tick-tocks although there’s plenty of remnant viral data floating around social media.
With that, hourly casual security guards joined meat workers, social housing tenants, families celebrating Eid, Bondi backpackers and Chinese lab technicians as the community transmission villains of choice.

"About 20,000 employees in more 190 restaurants will be required to wear masks. The restaurants are operating as takeaway, delivery and drive-through only stores under stage three lockdown restrictions that were reintroduced last week.
“We are providing employees with three-ply surgical masks, as to not affect the supply of N95 masks, used in hospitals," a spokesperson said."

"Governor Gavin Newsom on Monday ordered an immediate halt to all indoor activities at restaurants, bars, entertainment venues, zoos and museums.
In the worst-affected counties of the south-western US state, churches, gyms and hairdressers will also close.

Dr Robert Wachter, chair of the Department of Medicine at University of California San Francisco, told the BBC World Service some people seemed to have got complacent in the fight against the disease.

"We were doing so well and things seemed under control. And so the restrictions were eased but I think people took that as the starting gun for changing behaviour too much. So yes people were allowed to go out and around but they were supposed to wearing a mask. They were supposed to be keeping their distance. They were supposed to be avoiding large crowds. And I think too many people got a little bit complacent.""

This isn't a Victorian issue, I'm talking about the general lax attitude towards social distancing. All the states refused to fine attendees and now we wonder why people arent taking social distancing seriously.Tannin wrote:So exactly how did the government "allow" BLM rallies?
