The forward line is still a work in progress. I'm sure Cox will be given another chance next week.

Go Pies.
I noticed Mason looking quite glum and down during the singing of the club song. Many might immediately think he was pissed off about being replaced in the selected team. If this is so, then that's not necessarily a negative thing, as he could well turn that disappointment into an intense effort to get selected for the Eagles. Brodie against Nic Nat might need some help

It struck me though how tough the current pandemic must be for him. A vast ocean separates him from his family, who live in one of the most precarious US states. I hope and trust that the club and his team mates get around him and provide support and encouragement.

Selwood is finished. They looked a bit less useless without him because Wills didn’t have a witch’s hat to run past in the second half.

THE Cats really are Dads Army now, rely on their old guys so much, far too much. :P
It’s an interesting study in recruitment strategy for 2 teams at the same point from the 2011 GF - we rebuilt and I think now we are far better placed for the future, compared to their choice to reset/top up.

Anyway, a win is a win, we put those handbags back on the rack and sent their bleeder to the bench...did anyone see that showpony Dangerfield tonight? Did he play?
Dangerfield picked up 32 touches, second most on the ground and he and Ablett almost single-handedly dragged the Cats over the line.

The low scoring is a problem. It meant we are never comfortably ahead, and last night, umpiring had the biggest impact on the game. Umpires never let the Cats get a sniff in the last quarter.

If we were down 8 points at 3/4 time, and then proceeded to get the next 10 free kicks paid against us, we'd be filthy and accusing the AFL of cheating and demand Eddie do something.

Umpires had more influence than any player on the ground.

^ Yep. I think a lot of people don't see Varcoe breaking clear with ball in hand anymore and think that he's therefore done. But I disagree. He's still got his pace and agility and he's as hard as a cat's head. He bumps, tackles and harasses like an old school back pocket would and just makes us a lot faster around half back.

Possibly doesn't generate enough rebound for a modern half-back but is still quite a useful player for us. With Maynard, IQ and Crisp, he makes us a whole lot more mobile down back

Ablett finished two seasons ago - he just hasn’t informed his club, yet. Dangerfield is OK but is half as good as Pendlebury because is is incapable of using the ball in the same way.

As for Ablett “lifting”, that is just a way of saying that he made an effort to stand upright on his walking frame. According to the AF rankings, he was the 29th best player on the ground. 45 ranking points, fewer than, eg, Brown, WHE and Wills.

By the way, the umpires were influential - they let Grundy (again) be dragged, scragged and pushed all night. Pity he didn’t play in the 1970s, he would have received about 10 free kicks a quarter. The umpiring ruins the game as a spectacle and allows too much holding of the game’s genuine champions, I suppose it’s what we have to expect - special rules to let teams that can’t field a competent ruckman be competitive against one of the two or three best that the game has ever seen.

Still, his game last night was the equivalent of a 58 hit out, 20 disposal game in a full-length match of footy.

Another great win. We are easily the best defensive team in the comp....and defences win Premierships.

Our midfield is performing much better with the inclusion of Billy Elliott. Moving Crisp into the middle in the last quarter was a master stroke - as some one else noted.

Grundy is a freak! De Goey is a star! Pendles is a legend! Treloar is a gun!

Obviously our forward set up is still a work in progress, but overall it's doing fine.

I'm still not convinced Callum Brown is an AFL player, but he certainly gives his all.

Looks like a Collingwood vs Port Grand Final. Lock it in! Go Pies!

I Agree, i thought Varcoe did quite well, he had a real go, id love him to finish his career with a Flag, he was so unlucky in 2018, lets hope we can, maybe, just maybe, make up for it. :)

Now here comes a somewhat outrageous suggestion ...
We already have quite a few "blondes" in the team. Wouldn't it be a hoot if the entire team went blonde! Perhaps chance to donate to charity? The result would, I am sure, go viral. We are already the most famous team in the country, but could possibly become the most famous footy team on the planet. What great (and free) advertising for our wonderful game
Finally, it may be outrageous, but it is possible. The club could make it happen, providing the players agree. The blonde would not be permanent and would eventually grow out if need be. Can you imagine a blonde Grundy? or Pendles? Varcoe? Quaynor? Bosenavulagi? I almost lalugh out loud just thinking about it.
I think dolly gray posted this in another thread by mistake, so I’m reposting it here.

Geelong have 23 more wins since 2011 and missed finals once - we've missed finals 4 times. Their strategy has been surprisingly successful in not bottoming out and being in contention.

As for the future and what you think, that's all IFs IFs IFs isn't it. And you don't believe in absurd IFs

Considering all the bites it gets, it's no surprise it keeps posting. Ignore it and it will go away.
