Betheras - To many players like him at the club
Tuckey - Keep him another season (Just see something in him.)
Roach - Keep him (Injuries did not help him) Future key Backmen which we need.
Lane - Done enough to keep for depth.
McKee- Good relief ruckmen for Josh.
Ukovic - Trade if anything good comes up.
Scotland - Keep (Has good skill)

I would keep Rich because he is the best of our tall defenders and we would be seriously exposed without him. He has some good scalps in the last couple of years including Ricmond's Richardson more than once and Carey.
Re Betheras - your comment is correct but I think he is the best of them so I would keep him. I would rather let Dimma and Steiner go.
As for the rest - it's always hard to let guys go but someone has to go. The rest are all on the market as far as I am concerned.

You might be right there Leonin. I don't know if he is tall enough to be our only CHB option and the role he played late this year probably wont exist long term. If we get a good ruckman who operates in tandem with Josh I doubt Kinnear's role fits. I don't know where that lkeaves him, but at least he can play a number of positions and would be handy as a backup. Depth will be more importand next year come finals time. We had a good run with injuries this year and who knows whether we can expect that next year.

these are the players that Collingwood need to trade in order to excel into the top 4 next year 2002. they are the following:

I won't go through the obvious ones like Bucks, etc.
Damien Adkins - keep at all costs. If he can improve upon where he left off in 2000, then he'll be like a new recruit to the midfield.
Shane Wakelin and Carl Steinfort: Both these guys were revelations at the start of the year and their form suffered after they begun carrying niggling injuries. Wakelin, especially, is judged harshly - but the truth is that with the amount of times they ball started getting swamped into defense, even the best defender is going to buckle. Keep unless there's much better options somebody's not telling us about.
Rhyce Shaw: Put him back on the Wing.
Ben Kinnear: Better keep developing.
Heath Scotland: Should be the third recognized midfielder behind Bucks and Sideshow next year.
Danny Roach: Better improve soon. Will only be kept because of his "cost" to the Club.
Simon Prestigiacomo: I can believe people consider this guy "tradeable." He should be the rock they build the defense upon. Will gain more initiative as the defense becomes more reliable.
Chazz Rintoul: Was a gun before break his leg and never really regained his fitness until it was too late.
Shaky Ground:
Mark Richardson: Didn't really capitalize upon his improvement from 2000. However, I believe he gets pushed up onto the Veteran's List next year, which may save him.
Glenn Freeborn: Even in his preferred position - Forward or midfield - he's too inconsistent. As a defender he's terrifying and was killed this year unless things were going right for us.
Rupert Betheras: A lot of people fault this guy. While his disposal can be questionable, he's often overmatched - as when he was played on Clint Bizzell. Rupe was too short and too slow for Bizzell and people were complaining about his performance? He often gets the jobs we don't have players for and then is judged harshly upon the outcome. Of all the similar guys we have like Rupe, Rupe has the best character, passion and committment and should be the last to go (of these guys).
Steve McKee: Skills around the ground are good, but would have to improve considerably in the Ruck-contests. His best this year was when he and Josh tag-teamed the opposition Ruck so they didn't know who was going up. But if we have no other Ruck-options, he'll remain a necessary evil.
Andrew Ukovic: I've actually faulted this guy a lot, but I'd be interested to see how he comes up if he can regain the confidence in his body. The few times I saw him this year, he seemed extremely wary of overextending himself and snapping one of his seemingly chronic-hamstrings.
James Wasley: Will have to make a marked improvement next year. There were occasions this year where I thought he would've been quite handy to have (like on Bizzell), but has to catch-up in development with the others who've left him behind.
Brent Tuckey: Leads well and hits packs hard, but his ground skills are non-existent. I thought he should've been played a couple of times this year in place of Tarrant, just as a wake-up call to Tarrant, but the different between Tuckey-forward and Molloy-forward in the two halves against the Kangaroos signifies each of their importance and impact upon the Team.
Ben Johnson: I'm still not sure what this guy does in the Team. Eminently tradeable.
Dale Baynes: Every time he's threatened to make his mark on the Seniors, he gets injured. Would be very useful as another tall, but injuries might've finished him as far as the patience of the Coaching Staff goes.

It might be better to pursue one of the 5 Ruckman Adelaide have on their List, or one of the 3 Port Adelaide have on their List. Both would also be much cheaper options than Everitt. The other one to consider as a makeshift Ruck until Richards comes up is Robran from Essendon.

Justin Murphy: Word is he's still unhappy at Cat-land and he can be a fantastic player. Also, there's nothing I'd like more than an ex-Blue firing and helping Collingwood to success. Believe me there wouldn't be a week I wouldn't remind the Blues about him, even if he had to come to us via Geelong.
Troy Cook: I'm not sure what his situation is with Fremantle, but he's an unheralded talent and tough midfielder.
Stay Away From:
Barry Hall: In 1999 I said to anybody who'd listen to go after this guy and just about everybody laughed at me. Well now he may be loose at four times the cost and with no real position to fill at the Club with key-Forward position occupied by Rocca, Fraser, Molloy and Tarrant. Would have to play him as a CHB, which may be a consideration ifhe and Anthony Rocca rotated.
Dean Solomon: May be worthwhile but there's a danger in re-uniting him and Tarrant. That group of Tarrant, Doehring and Solomon all have the capacity to suddenly mentally drop-out of games.
Clint Bizzell: Like Hall, where would you play him? The danger inherent here is similar to when we picked-up Barry Mitchell - on paper, great, but it's hoarding and in the end you can't fit them all into the Forward-line. Fraser's good enough to play anywhere and Tarrant (as Driver has touted) could make a fantastic Center-Half Back, or at the very least a "floater" - although that would take its toll on him if he was used as a utility, but Rocca and Molloy's best positions are up-Forward. So the two key-Forward positions are basically filled.

'Eminantley Tradeable'....Benny Johnson..No Way Sir's...He has played 30 odd games and looks to have a hardness at the ball that is rare these days. Does all the hard stuff and will be a future in an under type in the mould of the above described.
Faith in him was rewarded by the number 26 guernsey being bestowed upon him. We should not get into the bad habit of trading potential youngsters who can go one to bigger and better things.As we did with the Sandersons/Curley/Bjames/Mccartney's/ and in hindsight perhaps even a Hotton..no real champion standouts but perhaps if we retained some of that depth we would not have seen the horrors show of 99 and what preceeded it in the mid 90's.Sure we will keep our stars but lets not trade our depth either...

I can't believe people want to trade Scott Burns.
He is in our top 5. I know he hasn't played a lot of footy for a few years but he makes a huge diffencr when he does.
Either people forget how well he has played or the easy call to trade the over 28's has infected their brains like mad cow disease.
If you always trade your older players or force them to retire (al la Mathews) you end iup with a list of 17 to 27 year olds.
How many teams have won a premiership with ythat type of list?
