Collingwood Board: Christine Holgate thrown under a Bus?
Has our board member been thrown under a bus? Is Morrison’s feigned outrage a deflection from his own mismanagement?
She was head of Blackmore when she was invited to the board but has since shifted to the GPO sorry Australia Post.
The previous head of Australia Post was infamous for his gazillion dollar salary while cutting services.
She’s not in that league but her judgement might need to be called into question with respect to her behaviour in wanting to appease racist and divisive types like Pauline Hanson during the lockdown of the high rise housing commission flats and now she’s facing scrutiny over alleged gifts which is small fry compared to the income she’s brought.

Bad timing: Holgate's very expensive estimates watch
https://www.theage.com.au/national/bad- ... 567o9.html
"How unfortunate though, given the revelations that Holgate rewarded four senior executives with four Cartier watches worth $3000 each, that Holgate chose to accessorise her Senate hot seat session with a luxury watch. A very expensive luxury watch.
To be precise: a gold Serpenti Tubogas watch from luxury Italian jeweller Bulgari.
The watch can retail for as much as $48,300 locally, or for a little as $20,000.
While Australia Post didn't foot the bill, tone deaf, we hear you cry, not for the first time.
After all, Postie HQ under fresh plant lover Holgate splashed out more than $700,000 on office plants. Then again, that’s a splash in the pond compared to the $1.15 million in termination payments AusPost handed out this year to just three executives.
...
Last year the $2.86 million-a-year chief executive (including bonuses) was spotted on the streets of Sydney’s Mosman driving an electric blue Range Rover four-wheel drive, with the bespoke "POSTY1" number plate. When asked about the car bling, Holgate said it had been a gift from her husband."

Australia Post boss's career in balance while $12,000 watch purchase investigated
https://www.theage.com.au/politics/fede ... 567g4.html
"Christine Holgate's controversial three-year reign at the helm of Australia Post appears over after she was forced to stand aside as the federal government ordered an investigation into the purchase of $12,000 worth of luxury watches for senior employees.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison said he was "so appalled and shocked" by the revelations...
Ms Holgate will stand aside during the four-week investigation, after Mr Morrison told Parliament on Thursday that "if she doesn't wish to do that, she can go".
...
"I have not used taxpayers' money. We are a commercial organisation," Ms Holgate said.
...
A government source said Mr Morrison was angry about the "taxpayers' money" line from Ms Holgate, which was being referred to as an "11-word suicide note" in government ranks on Thursday night.
...
The scandal is the latest in a string of controversies to plague Ms Holgate's tenure as chief executive. These include revelations she spent about $300,000 on corporate credit cards and chauffeur-driven cars over a 12-month period, and paid a reputation management firm $119,000 for just 38 days of work for the organisation between June and July.
Ms Holgate, who won the job in late 2017 after her predecessor Ahmed Fahour resigned just weeks after his $5.6 million salary was revealed by a Senate committee, has made some powerful enemies in her three years in the role.
Several senior executives have left under her reign, some in acrimonious circumstances, and have expressed concern with her management style and extravagant spending on entertainment to lobby stakeholders, industry colleagues and politicians on both sides of the aisle.
Sources, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said the organisation had paid for her accommodation at Melbourne’s Park Hyatt while she flew in from Sydney for much of her first year in the role."

Nonsense. This is nothing more than a political hatchet job on her. Four $3000 watches to executives who made Australia Post $60,000,000 on a deal with the banks. She's taken a massive pay cut from Blackmores to repair the damage of her predecessor who was on twice her salary. Now she'll walk away and leave it to the politicians to claim their lavish travel expenses which few of us query.
She can piss off and you can too, Eddie... I mean, MBFC or whichever board member/relative you are. If you think Holgate’s attitude is the type we want on the club’s board, then take a flying leap. No wonder the club, and AFL, is just money grabbing for-profit, not a people’s club (that died a long time ago). Considering what Collingwood was built on, and what it stood for for so many decades, this is a disgrace

"Australia Post is fully owned by the federal government and classed as a government business enterprise, similar to NBN Co. It paid a $21m dividend to the government last financial year, its annual report says."
The c-word again (it's just like AFL ):
"Mr Morrison ... is equally concerned at the culture of the board which allowed the spending to take place. Although the make up of the board has changed in the past two years, he is eager to ensure that cultural problems don't persist under the current board.
It is understood Ms Holgate's assertion to a Senate estimates committee that she had not misspent taxpayers' money was considered by the government to represent a serious lapse of judgement."
Former chair Stanhope:
"Australia Post is self-funding, but having said that they're a government-business enterprise that is reportable to a minister and therefore the Parliament, so while it's not taxpayer funded, it still has an accountability to the government."

I don’t believe that anyone on this board would have enough knowledge to determine whether the wrong thing was done or not. Australia Post is government owned but is run as a commercial organisation, not as part of the public service. Each of the executives that received a watch valued at a few thousand dollars, as a performance bonus, will have employment contracts which most likely provide for bonuses subject to certain pre conditions being met. Even if they don’t, which is unlikely, it makes good commercial sense to reward employees whose efforts result in significantly higher returns than their budgets required them to meet. The bellowing here sounds like political opportunism or people not understanding how the commercial world works.

Anyone here who thinks that Collingwood memberships alone are propping up the CFC should think again. It's business people like Christine Holgate who bring money into the club. If it wasn't for Eddie this club would have been broke a long time ago. You don't have to be in love with them to recognize what they do for the club. Unfortunately we fall in love with governments and believe everything they say.

Is this the sort of person we want on our board? Even if she’s done nothing wrong, on the two examples noted above her judgement needs to be questioned.
Why stop there?
What about Mark Korda? He apparently and amongst other things liquidates companies and pays the little people last....who knows where this stops....

I would hope for your sake that he doesn’t read this as being a liquidator he is an officer of the court and bound to pay out creditors as prescribed by law. The “little people” are quite often the unsecured trade creditors which stand in line, by law, after the secured creditors who are normally banks and other financiers. The liquidator has no choice as to which class of creditors he pays, and when.
