That's an odd comparison. We don't sack coaches and we haven't finished 9th since 2001.

Malthouse was there for 12 seasons, and Buckley's approaching his 10th season as coach. I think we've been more than patient with our coaching staff.

They can stick their Membership up their arse, im done. Done.
Agree entirely. Absolutely ludicrous trade!!!!! :x
Mr Miyagi, there may have been a few supporters who wanted him traded, but I believe they were in the minority and I was most certainly not one of them.
I hope for his sake, Stevo will be very happy at North and will make whoever are responsible for this woeful event feel very regretful.

Clearly there is more to it behind the scenes.
Stevo is speaking on the AFL site in about 20 mins.

His 2018 season was amazing for a first year player. Since then his attitude has left a lot of us wondering if he actually gives a damn. I think he needed a good kick in the arse. We obviously tried this several times throughout the season without getting through to him, so now he is gone.

I think this deal is called cutting your losses.

Other teams have worked him out, how to play him off the ball and limit his influence. We over-payed him on a promise that he didn't deliver. We have WHE, as far as I'm concerned these two are the same, keep one, move on the other. It feels bad to lose a talented player with potential but as Mick said he is a 'Scaredy Cat'. If the club really valued him he would still be here, remember that. I hope we will get the full picture at some stage.

Guys, at least he went to cellar dweller North and not to a club that would have us feeling sick in the guts. It hurts to have spent a pick 6 on him and not get a top 10 back, we made mistakes with him and I hope someone falls on their sword over it, a sacrificial lamb will do. But, we move on as supporters, I'm not going to stop being a Collingwood man, we f**ed up, we owned it, we fixed it, so let's bloody well own it and learn from it. I can only hope that this hard line creates a fork in the road from where we finally take the correct path. Time will tell.

Very rarely am I publicly critical of the club.
This tho is the height of incompetence. I said we were a mid and forward short at the end of the season. We will end up being 4 mids and 2 forwards short.
We won’t play finals for at least two years. And that’s if everything goes well.

I just think he deserved one more season with us, just to see how he went, clearly HUB life did not agree with him, at all, plus he had other issues, wasnt he very sick with glandular fever early ? I hope we dont rue the day on this one, players like him dont grow on trees, and hes still young player too. Ah well, hes going to be playing in front of only 7000 odd people now, not the 80 000 he got with us. I guess he can live with that. :?

As predicted, he will be portrayed as a star, a jet, and all the other great things you can label someone now that he is gone. Had we kept him, it would be the opposite and a "fail" by Collingwood.

I was unrealistically hoping for pick 2. But I was realistically hoping for pick 11. I can deal with trading him, but would have expected a better return.

Only time will tell if we made the right call.

Yep. Very well said mate. I personally hate to see any player leave the club. BUT its been done for a reason. He now used to play for us. Time to move on.

The commentator who first floated the idea that "other teams had worked him out" is now saying, after the deal has been done, that Stepho could be a gun. I think the line that "other teams have worked him out" has no basis in reality whatsoever. Stepho has had a shocking year. We also know that glandualr fever is a great sapper of energy levels. We also know that the pandemic has had a massive impact on some players more than others. We also know that our coaches decided that it was more improtant for Stepho to go hard into packs, with his thin, slight frame and get smashed in contests, rather than play forward and kick goals this year.
There is no way to reconcile oneself with this terrible decision by Collingwood. It is pure self-destruction.
