NSW...

Although they still don’t know how it got into Victoria, or they do and won’t say...
It came from someone who came dowm from Northern Beaches who Staying or Living around Black Rock and they went out to Places like Black Rock Hotel/Chadston/Brighton Yaught Club
Sorry Dave but we don't know that, all we know is that the strain in Vic is the same as that in the northern beaches. The person who ultimately started the Vic outbreak was definitely around Black Rock etc as you say, but how they got infected or who they are we don't know.
Exactly, it could have been a hq worker for all the Victorian government knows!

But the person they tried to blame tested negative

[quote="stui magpie"][quote="watt price tully"]We’ll see in the next two weeks how the Sydney virus is going in Sydney as it will take two weeks or thereabouts post the SCG test for incubation etc. let alone other parts of Sydney.

I think they should ban UK travellers for a while till we know more about this mutant strain.

I should ask my local economist on their view of communicable diseases then I can ask my local immunologist about their view on Macroeconomic theory.

From the article stui posted:

"Our track record, particularly responses of the NSW government, shows spread can be controlled."

True, however our track record in Victoria shows we cannot control the spread so a different approach is needed.

^ Wrong. Victoria has learned how to control the spread very effectively indeed. NSW takes horrendous chances and only the luck of the devil saved us all from a NSW-seeded third wave over Christmas New Year. Their irresponsibility was breathtaking. Too early yet to be completely certain, but it looks as though we lucked out. But no matter the final result, it was boneheaded stupidity writ large.

Yeah, but he does add
Melbourne's devastating second wave last winter was our major exception, but many important factors were poorly managed and these have now been markedly improved.
Now they would have had to have been markedly improved because they could hardly have gotten any worse, the question is whether markedly improved means up to NSW standard yet.

You keep calling it luck. There's an old quote that exists in a few different forms and has variously been attributed to Thomas Jefferson and Samuel Goldwyn that in basis goes "The harder I work, the luckier I get"

NSW has been running the same MO all year, top class contact tracing with targeted interventions to keep the virus in check and minimising the impact to the NSW citizens. They don't have people scarred from 4 months locked down like we do.

Just look at the numbers. They've had over 2800 cases fly in to be hotel quarantined and only had 2200 locally acquired cases in 12 months for a total of 54 deaths.

Stacked up against Victoria's 19,388 locally acquired cases, 1023 fly in cases and 820 deaths, you can't just keep saying NSW has been lucky.

^ that's probably accurate Dave. In fact, we should be pretty proud of all of our State leaders. Despite the utter fvck up by Dan Andrews with HQ, he did manage the hard lockdown to get us out of the shit and made some tough, unpopular decisions which is what you want your leaders to do.

Apart from the QLD premier playing politics a bit too much, all of our leaders have been good compared to what's happening overseas.

It’s beyond $@&^# and I assume this new traffic light system is to basically make all interstate travel subject to permits for the foreseeable future, even if there are months without cases.

Somebody just loves to have control and hopes to discourage as many people as possible from leaving this shithole.

But still a NSW resident within 150ks of the border can travel freely around Victoria, no permit or Covid test required. A Victorian visits those border towns and they need a permit, isolate and get tested.
