To follow that up - and perhaps indicate that I am not actually barking - I have just started looking at a recent report from the US CDC: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nc ... urden.html

It deals with, amongst other things, estimates of under-reporting in the US to December 2020 and suggests that only 1 in every 4.2 symptomatic illnesses and 1 in every 4.6 total infections (ie, including the asymptomatic ones) was reported in the US last year. If that 4.6 estimate holds good to date, that would mean that about 135 million people in the US have had the disease. That's a bit over 40% of the US population.
yeah i was kind of replying and agreeing!!! coming up with reasons why its so badly under reported. cheers :D
You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either!

In Victoria, 14 days in a row of no new community cases, just 3 active cases and no-one in hospital with COVID.

So, the Spectator publishes "Self Employed Australia"'s self-serving press release (we know that because the Spectator hasn't even bothered to fix the syntax) and you think it's news? Even on its face, its drivel. The underlying logic of the press-release is that "section 131 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act ... requires WorkSafe to investigate alleged work safety breaches when requested".

Assuming, for a moment, that SEA's assessment of the way the Act works is correct (a matter about which I neither know nor care) and, in particular, that investigation would be mandatory, it would scarcely be surprising that a mandatory investigation had been commenced, would it?

I see that the Murdoch Press are carrying some possibly related story from abut 12 hours ago - I don't know about the content because they are both pay-walled.

In the meantime, here's the Libs' early January press release on the topic: https://vic.liberal.org.au/News/2021-01 ... as-ohs-law

I see the Minister responsible for not allowing police and adf to guard hotel quarantine and the latest outbreak from the failed hotel quarantine program is taking her 'sick leave' in Queensland.

It's good to know the illness that is keeping her from her job and facing the consequences of her actions doesn't stop her flying around the country.

Not much to the Herald Sun article.
A Worksafe investigation into last year’s disastrous hotel quarantine scheme could see Daniel Andrews and senior ministers grilled.

The probe, which began in August last year, is considering whether hotels used for quarantining returned travellers were safe, and whether there were breaches of workplace laws.

It is understood no ministers have so far been interviewed in relation to the probe, which is looking at the Department of Health, the Department of Jobs, and companies involved in the scheme.

Self Employed Australia, which represents business owners and requested an investigation last year, was told by the watchdog’s enforcement group last week an investigation was “ongoing”.
There's more text but nothing of substance.

I had a look at the Spectator site before I posted the artcle. Seems like a right wing version of the Guardian so hardly a valid source for news, hence the qualification that IF it was true.......

I actually have no problem with that, it's the smartest thing any Victorian Labor politician has done in over 12 months. :P

Also can kill some old people, yet last year when people were dying in homes due to Covid it was all because of Covid and 6.5 million Victorians suffered for 9 months to stop it.

Now when old people die after getting the injection it's just a coincidence and over 1000 people die in aged care homes every week anyway.

That’s what some Scandavian Countries say might be the case with the Astra Zeneca. However, it is not in anyway definitive. Meanwhile Israeli tests are showing a positive correlation between taking aspirin and reduced rates of acquiring Covid-19.

Yes, you should have done that Arts degree; means you wouldn’t have made such silly comparisons. The Spectator and the Green Left weekly perhaps. But I can understand how the ill informed could make your false equivalence.

The only problem is your mates in the Liberal Party have made it terribly expensive to broaden ur horizons through some tertiary study for a BA.

This is interesting.
WorkSafe Victoria issued improvement notices to the Health Department and COVID-19 Quarantine Victoria in late January before the state’s latest coronavirus cluster emerged from the Holiday Inn Melbourne Airport quarantine hotel.

A government source with knowledge of WorkSafe’s action, who was not authorised to comment publicly, told The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald the notices related to quarantine protocols at Melbourne Airport and came about a week before a family of three staying at the Holiday Inn tested positive to the British strain of the coronavirus.
And this part is hilarious.
The improvement notices had been issued before Premier Daniel Andrews declared the state’s hotel quarantine arrangements were “gold standard” and more stringent than other states.
https://www.theage.com.au/national/vict ... 57377.html

That may well explain why the Hotel Quarantine program and international arrivals haven't been re-started yet, they likely still haven't fixed enough things to have the improvment notices lifted.

I wouldn't be too concerned, Dave. I think what is probably happening is that as they start vaccinating large numbers of people in high risk groups, those people suffer other illnesses at more or less the usual rates but the link between the two events creates a concern. Denmark, Norway and Iceland have (in European terms) less pressing need for getting their populations vaccinated - because they haven't been suffering as badly from widespread disease. So, they are erring on the side of caution, because they can (as Australia should also do, since the COVID infection rate here is such that we can afford to be a little more careful - not recalcitrant but cautious - about what we are doing).
