Europe has actually lifted suspensions and started using the Astrazeneca vaccine again. There was never a valid reason to stop in the first place.
A few people getting blood clots could be written of as purely unrelated coincidence. It would be like if out of all the pedestrians killed by traffic in the past few weeks, 4 of them had been vaccinated so quick stop vaccinations as it clearly causes people to walk in front of trucks.
I'll book mum in as she's due in this tranche, I'll get mine when it's my turn. I'm not scared of it, my reservations are really how effective it will be.
My Dad had an old saying, it's like putting a poultice on a wooden leg. If it doesn't help, it can't hurt.

I saw an explanation as to why they temporarily stopped the administration of that vaccine as a result of so few blood clots, which was that the blood clots were not normal blood clots. Apparently in the case of a normal blood clot there is a clumping together of the platelets in the blood, however the blood clots that they were concerned about were unusual because the blood was clotting without the platelets clumping together. I don't know how they resolved that concern, or if they didn't and just decided to proceed because the clotting numbers were small.

In Victoria, now 25 days in a row of no new community cases. There is now no active case in the State and no-one in hospital with COVID. 13,549 test results reported negative.
No wastewater detections reported, either.
Victoria is now reported to be COVID-free.
That will end, of course, the moment we resume accepting international arrivals.

Better to let competent people do the work.
Anyway, back here in Danistan we get a bit of a reward.
75,000 people can now go to the MCG from Thursday.
Masks aren't needed in shops, only in public transport and hospitals from 6pm Friday and 100% of people able to return to the office.
As long as NSW in particular, and QLD keep doing all the heavy lifting we might be safe down here.

As a Victorian I just cannot understand the anti-NSW sentiment in regards to Covid. They are miles ahead of us in what they have achieved.Pies4shaw wrote:Yep, active cases in NSW are still at 57. They can do as much of that as they like.
There have been 29,000 covid cases in Australia as a whole. Despite a population that is 17% greater than ours, they have had 5,000 cases and we have had 20,000 cases.
Of the 909 covid related deaths in Australia, we have had 820 and NSW have had 54.
We have had lengthy lockdowns. They haven't.
We are too scared to continue hotel quarantine. They aren't.
So your point is correct, they should keep doing what they are doing. And, we should learn from them.
NSW started the first big run of COVID in Australia in their aged care homes and by exporting passengers off the Ruby Princess. They nearly killed all of us at Christmas. They were just lucky. If they keep doing hotel quarantine, eventually, their number will come up. It's not viable and it shouldn't happen. People who want to come to Australia should actually be isolated for 4 weeks, somewhere very remote.stui magpie wrote:Better to let competent people do the work.

That isn't to say that they haven't performed better than Victoria - but that kind of partisan nonsense masks the reality - which is that we know bringing people in from overseas is very dangerous. We need a better strategy than getting them off planes and driving them to a hotel in the middle of the nearest central business district. That's just a form of Russian Roulette.

They were no where near killing us all at Christmas, they proved how good effective management can work. The only partisan nonsense comes from those pretending that Andrews has done a good job.
While I agree on the ideal state of play for quarantining international travelers, apart from Darwin that's not the system we have.
Anyway, my local GP clinic is one of those doing the Covid vaccines. I rang them about mum, they emailed me a consent form. I printed it out, she filled it in and I scanned it and emailed it back to them.
They'll get in contact when they have an appointment. All good.

There is no medical issue or negative consequence in having the Vaccination. There was no medical / scientific basis to the reactions in parts of Europe when they put a stop to it. The clots were not related to the vaccine. All should be good.think positive wrote:Excellent

Unless you're a woman who is pregnant there should be no issues, unless one has a serious medical condition which you should tell your GP about then there is also no issue. Millions of doses have been administered in the UK and there are no issues as such.

I received the AstraZeneca vaccine yesterday. I called up to book in expecting at least a 60 day wait and the receptionist advised me that they just had a cancellation and would I like that appointment, I said yes. Arrived at 3pm, had the consent form filled out. I didn't feel a thing and headed out to the waiting room where I had to wait 15 minutes to see if I had a reaction of which I had none. I was out the door at 3.20pm. No reaction today and went into work and feel fine. Second jab in 3 months. I asked the nurses about the reactions to the virus. They advised me that they have done a lot and most people they have given a vaccine too have had no reaction. The ones that have, symptoms are a headache and amazingly no blood clots. Doesn't fit the media or simpletons rhetoric. Sure everyone can have a different reaction and in saying that people that I know and who I work with have had no reaction.
