Our defence yet again keeps us in it. They helped keep the Lions to just 67 points in perfect conditions in 120 mins of football before that kick after the siren.

Our forward line and connection between mids and I50 entries continues to be an abomination, and has been for the past decade. Enough’s enough. Our forward line is a patch work tease as well. Rarely a cheap goal, make the easy look hard, cue Benny Hill music forward of centre at least twice a quarter. Rinse. Repeat. Vomit.

Buckley needs to walk asap and/or begin the process of handing over the reigns. At the end of the day, a decade of crap with a few decent seasons thrown in: 2018 was kinda cool with a soft draw, but finals-wise we were OK in Perth, average vs GWS, amazing vs Richmond minus a fit Dusty, and in the GF led 30-1 after 20 mins due to freak goal kicking before being overrun by WC (at home). 2019 was a sham: horribly unconvincing wins, nearly miss the 8, fall into the top 4 undeservingly, smash Geelong for 40 mins week one of finals, then barely hold on, and score zero points in the final quarter, then play like arse vs GWS sans 15 mins at the end, and miss a shot at GF redemption. Then play Jekyl and Hyde in the 2020 finals series after putting fans to sleep with scoring impotence for most of the season. That’s just about been it for the past decade. A freaking waste. Beige coach. Beige team. Beige club.

Pies should sack Buckley now and get Hodge or Mitchell. You know, blokes who have won multiple premierships. That would be nice.

As I've said my entire life - football sides need to be coached by a person that strikes fear into players'performance and loathes complacency and mediocrity.

You can't be buddies with your coach; it's the beginning of the end...
Not sure about this Piedsy. I think modern coaches have a different relationship with their charges.
Chris Fagan is a case in point.
I dont think the Brisbane Lions players fear Fagan. Rather, they love him and will do anything to fulfil his expectations of them.
Different generation.
Different mindset.

^ Yes, agree. Despite my crushing disappointment, it was heartwarming to see Fagan so happy for his team and so proud of them after they were robbed last week.

It’s just typical Collingwood under Buckley. We build hope. Show positive signs but then let ourselves down.
Our decision making going forward is terrible. We need to lower our eyes and try to hit a target. Stop bombing the ball and hope someone marks it.
For all our faults over the years we still don’t have a genuine forward. All tops sides have 1-3. We don’t that deplorable

Also why don’t we play more kids.

What more evidence does this club need to confirm that Buckley simply is not up to it? Can someone tell us?

Who gives a f..k what Fagan does or think?

We have a more pressing issue about our coach.

Who is simply not good enough.

From the salary cap fiasco/disaster we saw play out late last year, it is clear why we dont have a key forward. We simply were unable to afford one.
We are where we are, and cannot change this overnight. Salary cap space has now been achieved by hiving off major talent (Stepho, Adz), and it will take time to make use of this.

I am also heartened by the improvement shown by Sier tonight - hope a switch has been flicked somewhere in him at long last.
We actually have a great deal to feel positive about in the future. Young Daics is so exciting. That tackle in the forward line followed by a goal is not the first time he has done this. IQ is holding the form from last season and getting greater experience. Even though Darcy did not have the best night (I think maybe the Lion's tactics were to lead him away from the contest wherever possible) , he's just about reached super star status. Add Nick Daicos to the mix next year, get the most out of the veterans while we still have them-Pendles, Howie, Sidey and the experienced players like Crisp, Maynard, Grundy, JDG, Coxy etc, blood one or two exciting new players - who knows what could happen?

Dear SG, this is not a very constructive comment. PP is simply highlighting that the relationship Fagan has established with the Brisbane Lions players is what is driving their performances. It was heartwarming because it is a model of what can be achieved by superior coaching skills from a coach who is in sync psychologically with the mood of this generation. If we had a coach who had a similar intuitive understanding of what makes these young men tick, given the raw potential we have on our list, we could be challenging again for a Premiership very soon.

^ Thank you MTTM. :) I was just trying to find the words to explain why Fagan's reaction was indicative of his connection with his team, but you accomplished this beautifully without any effort from me :)

I’d be very interested to know what our record is in games decided by 12 points or less since 2012.
