I’m surprised no one here has mentioned the elephant in the room,the Federal government’s shambolic roll out of the vaccine.They promised what,4 million jabs by the end of March,and delivered only about one sixth of that in reality.

And now they’re having huge problems with the AstraZeneca vaccine.It was safe apparently,now they’re telling us that it shouldn’t be used on anyone under 50,and those people should get the Pfizer vaccine instead,which is already in short supply.

Why did the government put all its eggs in the AstraZeneca basket?Was it a cost saving measure,purely because it was a cheaper vaccine?If so then that’s pretty shameful.Why didn’t they buy up alternatives like Moderna and Johnson and Johnson,which only requires one jab?Apparently they’ve ordered tens of millions of doses and of another vaccine,Novamax.But that’s still in the testing stages and may be a year away from delivery.

As I said,it’s a pretty shambolic rollout of the vaccine,and questions need to be asked about how the government handled this whole fiasco.They’ve. clearly over promised and under delivered,in contrast to other countries like the US,which have done exactly the opposite.

Blood clots by the numbers.

The Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) said the risk of getting one of the rare blood clots after the AstraZeneca vaccine could be as low as about one in 200,000 (somewhere between one in 166,000 and one in 250,000).

And about a quarter of those people who get the clots die.

So, according to the basic maths, the risk of dying from one of these blood clots after taking the vaccine is very roughly about one in 800,000.

Ok, not great but not bad

Let's just take a random adult off the street. Research suggests they have a one in 1,000 chance of developing a blood clot known as a deep vein thrombosis (DVT) within a year.

And of those who do, about 6 per cent will die. So without the addition of any risk by taking a vaccine, about one in 17,000 adults is expected to die each year from that type of blood clot. So, statistically, you're much more likely to die of a blood clot for some other reason than because you took the AstraZeneca vaccine.

those odds might seem good - unless your son, daughter, brother, sister, or yourself is that 1 in 800,000

The theory is that it is for the overall good.
Not great if you are the exception though.
Unfortunately, we can't just pick and choose which vaccine we want and when we want it.
Supply and demand.
