In Victoria, there were no new local cases. There was 1 new overseas-acquired case (presently in Hotel Quarantine). There are now 16 active cases. 18,517 test results were reported.

The situation is, of course, terrible in India. Be wary of the over-hyping in the media, though. The numbers are large because the population is vast. If the assessment is done by reference to the number of deaths per million people, India has still experienced proportionately many fewer deaths than many other countries, even allowing for extensive under-reporting.

India has reported a total of 171 deaths per million people (which has it ranked just 110th-highest/113th lowest - so, more or less right in the middle of the pack)). Amongst countries with more than trivially small populations, Hungary ranks highest (2,947 per million), followed by Czechia (2,760), Bosnia & Herzegovina (2,693), Bulgaria (2,446), Belgium (2,101), Italy (2,028), Brazil (1,960), Peru (1,895), the UK (1,871), Poland (1,837), USA (1,788), Spain (1,685) and Mexico (1,677).

They are on raw numbers of deaths. The "top 5" is the US nearly 600,000, Brazil nearly 420,000, India nearly 240,000, Mexico nearly 220,000 and the UK nearly 130,000.

Also, the US is a vast country, so the number of deaths per million is an aggregation of some very high numbers (New Jersey is close to the worst-affected place on the planet and its population is only slightly lower than Hungary's) and some more modest ones (eg, Hawaii, where there have "only" been 343 deaths per million population). Thus, there are 9 countries with more than trivial populations that have death rates in excess of 2,000 deaths per million population - and 11 US states.

If so why hasn’t she had it?
My parents are in their 80’s, living in Melbourne, could have been vaccinated but haven’t decided to do so yet.
