IF you get Covid, sure you do. But given that my chance of catching Covid is basically zero, for me, the AZ vaccine is clearly the greater risk. If I was (say) a cleaner working in a quarantine hotel, the chances would be very different. You assess your own lifestyle and make your own calculation.Dave The Man wrote:Did ask my Doctor the Day before IF it was Okay and he said it was as I have lot more Chance of Dying of Covid then Dying because of the AZ Vaccine

The thing is, Stui, Morrisin over-committed to a single vaccine. He ignored advice from experts to spread his bets more and hoped that he could do it on the cheap. Now he is expecting older Australians to cop it in the neck for him. Why the Faark should we take a risk he wasn't willing to take himself? Why are we considered expendable, our-lives-don't-matter second-class citizens when under-50s get the good vaccines?
Nope. I'll wait for the good one, thank you very much. Like most Australians, I am at zero risk right now, so there is no reason not to wait.

And what would he know that I don't? Lots of detail, but I already know the basic facts just as well as he does, which are (1) that there is no Covid at all in this state and bugger all Covid in this entire country, (2) that one of the vaccines kills people, and (3) that we already have plenty of the other, safe, vaccines on order. I'll wait for a good one. So will countless millions of other Australians - and Scotty knows it. He is relying on suckers risking their lives for him. That should use up the AZ supplies he has over-ordered and then he might not look so cheap and stupid.

fair enough. I don't agree about the zero risk, as long as we have people flying into the country from Covid zones, there's risk. I also don't agree with the expendable bit. Look around the world at countries using the AZ vaccine. Blame Morrison all you like but other countries are pumping it into people with minimal problems.Tannin wrote:The thing is, Stui, Morrisin over-committed to a single vaccine. You're happy to stay out in your bush retreat and go to town once a week. I'm not. I want to be able to travel and come home, I want to be able to get on public transport and feel safe. I'm not scared of dying, it's going to happen to us all sooner or later. The trick is to enjoy the time you have IMHO.

You are in a higher risk state, Stui. And you have a higher risk lifestyle. There hasn't been a Covid case anywhere in this state for a whole year, and we live in a quiet corner of the state, and we are on 20 acres with plenty to do every day and seldom any wish to go out. I have caught public transport exactly once in the last ten years. (A bus into town one day when I was having the car serviced. I couldn't be bothered waiting for the bus to go back so I walked 5 kilometres back to the car place. Enjoyed it more than the bus ride too.) Our chance of getting Covid is lower than our chance of getting nailed by the dodgy vaccine. Plenty of other countries have stopped using it, by the way. Look at Europe!

Only problem is, a lot of people seem to think that they're also low risk and won't get vaccinated for whatever reason and that puts us all at risk.

Let's be honest, those whinging would have been defending the exact same decisions if they were made by Shorten.stui magpie wrote:
I knew you'd bite at the Anti Vaxer crack.
Look, the AZ vaccine was always the smart choice as we had the ability to make it here, avoiding supply chain and logistical issues. And it wasn't a choice Morrison made, he wouldn't know a vaccine from a catheter.
All the data from the UK where they've done millions of AZ shots support that you're more likely to die in a car crash than from the AZ vaccine. The tiny minority that get clots, they're getting better at fixing it so the odds of dying is reducing from infinitesimal to 2% of far call.
Your choice. As I said, I've had it, I'm fine, and I'm going back for seconds in July.
And well done Dave, showing some balls there.
Of course if Shorten was in charge we'd probably have been in far deeper trouble nation wide so people would have jumped at any vaccine
Yet they'll use the fact the country is safe thanks to the great work by the government and yet criticise the same government whilst enjoying the freedoms their decisions allowed us over the rest of the world.

I agree with this. And it isn't going to get any better until Morrison gets his arse into gear and (a) stops telling people who are willing to get vaccinated they can't have one of the safe, more effective vaccines, and (b) stops sending mixed messages.stui magpie wrote:Only problem is, a lot of people seem to think that they're also low risk and won't get vaccinated for whatever reason and that puts us all at risk.
Yesterday we got vaccinated. Mrs Tannin had a Covid vaccine, I had a flu vaccine. Now they are pretty much the same thing. Both are vaccinations which the majority of Australians have or should have. Flu has to be done in more of a hurry because it's a bit pointless if left until after the season, which starts now. But near enough the same. Compare the process:
COVID: Ring up for appointment. Hand over your personal information. Download 4 pages of forms. Connect up printer and print them. Fill them out. Fill out name and medicare number FIVE times, including TWICE on the SAME PAGE! Only a department headed by the grossly incompetent Stuart Robert could have got it as obviously wrong as this. I mean, they've only had a year to get the forms right. Go to clinic, go through process, leave.
FLU: Walk into chemist, have shot, leave.

geezus, what a lot of messing around.
Covid shot: I walked into the mass vacc site, produced medicare card and drivers licence, got asked and answered some questions, easy peasy. 10 minutes after walking in the door I was sitting down for the 15 minute post vacc rest while someone walking round with a tablet booked me in for the second shot.
No forms no bullshit.

Correct on all counts. Utter stuff up. By putting all their eggs in the Astra Zeneca basket for party political gain it blew up in their faces. The messaging has been and continues to be shambolic. No wonder there’s so much vaccine hesitancy.Tannin wrote:We are safe because of the great work by the STATE governments.
