I received the following email this morning. We probably all know the Rabbitohs story, but I can't begin to understand what it would feel like if this happened to Collingwood.

Nick, I really like your collingwood website and really admire the tradition your great club has. I follow a club very similar to yours called South Sydney rabbitohs. They have tradition and passion like collingwood and were established in 1908. South Sydney have won more premierships than any other club with 20 in first grade and 27 in reserve grade. They have had more players representing Australia than any other club and have an estimated fan base around Australia of about 800,000. South Sydney are a working class club that many people can relate too and is a club for the people. As you may well know South sydney have been kicked out of a competition that they helped start in 1908 by the NATIONAL RUGBY LEAGUE NRL for short run by Rupert Murdoch. Rupert Murdoch owns rugby league now and has chosen the teams that he wants and South Sydney were not part of the chosen few. What the NRL has done is set up a criteria rating which is absolutely DISHONEST and UNFAIR towards South Sydney they have stacked the criteria up against South Sydney so they would not make the 14 team competition. There are clubs presently in the NRL competition who are in debt to the tune of roughly between 10-14 millions but they are still in the competition because he has part ownership in them. South Sydney are debt free and owes no one nothing. South Sydney will be going to court in april to be re-instated back into the 2001 competition but when you are fighting up against one of the most powerful men in the world it wont be easy. South Sydney had a rally in october which attracted 50,000 plus people to show what the people think of what Mr Murdoch has done to the great South Sydney. South Sydney have had many functions to raise money organised by high profile people who follow souths such as Ray Martin, Andrew Denton, Alan Jones, Russell Crowe, Mickey Robins, Nick Greiner, and plenty more which all have been an outstanding success. In one night Souths had an auction and raised over $400,000 to go towards court costs. The other day souths had a concert and attracted over 17,000 people and had top AUSTRALIAN ARIA awarding winning band YOU AM I play for nothing along with TROY CASSAR-DALEY a self confessed South Sydney fan and other lesser know artists. Souths have a new line of mechandise which is selling through the roof which all of the proceeds will go towards our fighting fund. At the concert we sold $150,000 worth of Souths merchandise and sell about $20,000 a week to people all around Australia. We have plenty more money raising events coming up and I know they will all be succesful. I will end by saying thankyou for listening to my very shortened version of what Mr Murdoch did to my club that I love and he has not just taken away our club but our community we will never, ever give in to this bastard. As our President of the football club says George Piggins who used to be an ex player and represented Australia says People Power will win in the end. Just a little summary on George Piggins he is the person in Rugby with enough balls to take on Rupert Murdoch we love this man and we are right behind him. All the other people in rugby league did nothing because they were too sacred George Piggins is a man of his word and never, ever has let the Souths fans down. I few people have mentioned the Packer/Collingwood connection but what is the connection exactly???
I know that before the new board took over there was talk of a Packer cash flow and Packer's company(PBL)lending financial/marketing advice, but I haven't read a thing or heard anything since.
Nothing here on the "A Current Affair" expose on our esteemed board member either.
Did anyone see Wednesday nights program??????

Terry, South Sydney is fundumentally different to collingwood in that your club could never ever draw the people through the gate like our club can.
I don't want to seem rude, however I spent 5 years in Sydney and as far as sport is concerned, particually football, Sydney siders are so jealous and paranoid of Australian Football its not funny. The only way you can sell your imported game of (wank by league) is to rubbish every other sport. Its not only people in the street but also the media as well.
And as for SS having 80000 fans around Australia, what a load of rubbish.
