Bit of an over reaction for mine. 2 dead out of 3.5 million doses. The scare tactics over COvid is making everyone overly risk averse.

I'm due for my second AZ shot mid July, I'm stilling going in. If you survive the first shot, there's been no-one clot up from the second shot yet so you're safe

People in 50+ age group have been encouraged to get AZ but now it is only recommended for 60+

I understand that health advice can change but there are many people like me that have had the 1st dose of AZ and due for 2nd in early August and fall into the 50-59 block.

Now everyone will be wanting the Pfizer further delaying getting the majority of the population vaccinated.

What a shemozzle.

Anyway I am happy to get the 2nd shot of AZ.
If there is something better after that then I will get a booster, same as getting the flu shot each year.

I am 54 and had my first AZ shot yesterday... I am spewing that I was one day too early - I really wanted Pfizer as I think it is more effective and would have re-booked.

A distinctive type of blood clot is a known side effect of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine.

They are called cerebral venous sinus thromboses (CVSTs) and what makes them unusual is people often have low levels of platelets (the raw materials of clot) in their blood.

They are considered extremely rare - there have been 332 reported cases and 58 reported deaths - after nearly 35 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine in the UK.

But all of medicine is a balance of risk and benefit; and the number of blood clots has already led to a shift in the vaccination campaign.

Ideally, adults under the age of 40 should be given an alternative vaccine, such as those developed by Pfizer or Moderna.
https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-tyne-57267169

It's easy to bag the federal government, but Morrison didn't pick the vaccines personally, there was a process and that included getting full sign off from the Therapeutic Goods Administration, not a rushed one.

Put the above numbers for the UK in context.
4.5 million reported cases of Covid resulting in 128,000 deaths.
35 million AZ vaccinations resulting in 58 deaths.

You're a **** more likely to die of the virus than of the vaccine.

It's all well and good to say there's no virus around, but there will be. We can't stay shut off to the world forever, once enough people have been vaccinated we'll need to open up and learn to live with the virus in the community and those who chose not to get vaccinated will just have to take their chances

Yep, it's funny how when AZ was first identified as a blood clot risk everyone started jumping on to why don't we have J&J? Then it had the same issues and that campaign died a quick and quiet death.

AZ made the most sense to devote the main interest in given they were able to get the licence to manufacture locally and didn't have the same storage issues.

At the end of the day, 12 months ago they had to make decisions over many different vaccines of which none were actually a reality at that stage. You can't just commit to buying 50 million doses of every single option and hope one hits the spot. The same people who want this complain about whenever the government pays a couple of million above market price...

Sorry, I was too busy to post this morning's figures. So, here they are:

In Victoria, there were 0 new local cases and 1 new case acquired overseas (currently in HQ).
- 15,610 vaccine doses were administered
- 25,635 test results were received.

I see that travel advisories have been issued for Parts of NSW, to wit:
The Chief Health Officer is assessing the public health risks of community transmission within NSW and has initially designated the NSW Local Government Areas of City of Sydney, Waverley and Woollahra as orange zones under Victoria’s travel permit system.

- 35,252 test results were received.

The Government says that "The new locally-acquired case is a primary close contact of an existing case. "

Sydney now has 3 locally acquired cases of the Delta strain.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-06-18/ ... /100223740

Health experts calling for restrictions, Gladys so far calling for people to act responsibly and exercise self restraint rather than being forcibly restrained.

This should make for an interesting comparison. Victoria went into lockdown over the milder Indian strain and it wasn't so much the number of cases but the number of potential exposure sites and the geographic spread of them.

I'll follow this with interest.

I wouldn’t say I’m happy to, but yeah, not much choice, don’t fancy 2 doses of another one now!

It's not even a lockdown, not by Victorian standards. It's a measured nuanced approach asking adults to act responsibly.

The comparison between NSW and Victorian responses is stark, as is the results so far. This latest outbreak will be telling.

You're right, it did, but only in a handful of related cases and as we were already in lockdown it didn't go wild. Another leak from the Vic HQ.
