My impression is most people are more scared of another long lockdown than dying of Covid
not so much scared of lockdown, just damn sick of it!
"I want to break free....."

surely lessons have been learnt, this should not have happened, thanks to some selfish bastards with a red permit doing the wrong this, we are at risk of lockdown and big numbers again. 1 week after surgery im thanking my lucky stars, surgery was already delayed a month once, and for the first time in a year I can brush my teeth without feeling like a 2 year old, and i have enough strength in my hand to lift a full cup without pain! i cant imagine if i was on the list for a more urgent type of elective surgery, or in the public system waiting for surgery. I dont want to get sick, sick with something that may leave lasting problems, more importantly I dont want that to happen to my kids, and especially juniors friend who just finished 6 rounds of chemo, and will still have to have a lung removed, the last thing she needs is some weird respiratory disease, quite frankly it would probably kill her.

im excited to have seats behind the cheer sqaud this week, im hoping to be able to use my camera, in saying that i really dont care if they say no crowds, if we get more numbers in the coming days, lock down non essentials. i wont go into to politics but NSW left it too late, and as much as we should have reduced incoming flights earlier, the borders should have slammed shut. i mean really, were the movers an essential service when the move was from a red zone? i really dont think so.

In the abstract, we all think lockdown is worse than COVID. Were we to get COVID, vaccinated or not, we would assess our concerns differently.

It's somewhat ironic that Canberra, which has been judged to be a red zone by Victoria despite still having 0 cases of community transmission, will most likely end up having to return the favour in the coming days.

^ There are many worse things in Canberra than COVID, David - many of them festering in the Parliament. You can't be too careful.

Senior figures in the government say it is a very dynamic situation with meetings being held throughout the day on how to respond.

A 60-year-old positive man attended the MCG on Saturday for the Carlton vs Geelong game.

100% i agree, even though im apparently amazingly healthy for my age according to my doctor, it still worries me, but i guess since i dont personally know 1 person who has gone through it (apart from through an online forum is the US, not surprisingly) i guess im a bit detached from it now, and the inconvenience is annoying. Masks drive me crazy, mine because they are a little stifling, and everyone elses because they make lipreading challenging!

Yous were right to red zone us. We can't keep the Sydneysider assholes out. Some 24 year old was done last week, flew in from Sydney, got busted at the airport, was put into a hotel overnight to be returned to Sydney the next day, and then got caught again trying to escape the hotel. You can't make this shit up

And my sister who is on the board of a country footy league just got notification from AFL that lockdown is coming.

I saw that, that is concerning if it's correct as that means people can go from being infected to infectious in little over 48 hours and likely before getting symptoms.

So if those two people were infected at the footy Saturday night, they were likely infectious from Tuesday morning. The MCC was listed as an exposure site Wednesday morning so those people have potentially been infectious in the community for 36 hours before isolating and getting tested.

Even if those people religiously used the QR code checkin everywhere and contact tracers act at warp speed, they're going to struggle cos anyone they infected Tuesday morning is likely to be infectious themselves by this evening. Factoring in the inherent time delays in the system, getting to people to tell them to isolate before they become infectious is near impossible.

I did read earlier that the length of time from infection to infectious has decreased (was about 3-5 days now about 2 days) hence the rapidly changing nature of the situation.

I prefer an early, short lockdown to nip it in the bud but ffs, could we not move quicker on border closures?
