Interesting point, it's not just the absence of sick leave that causes problems.
Back in 2019 when I was at RMIT I was part of a large project team that had a large contingent of Deloitte employees working with us. In late winter, despite pretty much everyone on the floor having the ability to work from home, people kept coming in crook because you needed to be seen to be at work, and some lurgy swept the floor like Covid. People were dropping like flies and started missing weeks at a time of work. Eventually the message got through to stay home if you're sick.
In regard to paid sick leave for casuals, I'm sure you're aware that Casual employees get a loading (usually 25%) on their salary in lieu of annual and sick leave. How many of them would take a pay cut (reduction in the loading) to get paid sick leave?

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-07-20/ ... /100307698NSW lockdown needs to run to September to reduce cases of Delta strain, modelling shows
Sydney's lockdown will need to last until September to suppress case numbers, new modelling shows.
The model was developed by the Populations Intervention Unit at the University of Melbourne, and bases the lockdown ending when the median number of new daily COVID-19 cases falls below five.
It shows that, on the current Stage 4 Sydney lockdown settings, that threshold would be reached on September 4.
The model was run 10,000 times to take uncertainties into account.
It showed the target could be met as early as August 26, or as late as September 16.

When I was in Defence at Victoria Barracks in Melbourne I worked in a small bluestone block with only 2 floors. They had a mass vaccination program for flu very nearby and for the Military it was compulsory . Civilians was optional, it was free, you got a lollipop and got to catch up with others.
My boss said it was all bullshit and him and another hero said the same. The rest of us went. 4 weeks later these 2 dickheads came to work sick as dogs with the flu. They refused to go home. I went to the Director and said "Why do we have to work in in an unsafe environment that was totally unavoidable." He agreed and told us we could go home to avoid contaminating family members which would have kept us home anyway as carers etc. He walked in and tore strips off these 2 dickheads and said the other 10 in the office will stay home until you agree to stay home and get better. He was Colonel and said in the Military it is a self inflicted wound.
I played golf for 3 days, had a counter lunch and caught up with retired mates. The 2 dickheads rang the Union who said they were in the wrong and that sick leave was a right that was fought for and they were not getting backed. So they stayed home for a week and we had to go back.

Annoying opposition supporters since 1967.
There's a jolly little graphic in this article, showing just how widespread "primary close contacts" have become in Victoria:
https://www.news.com.au/national/victor ... b398bcea11
As the article notes, "At least 5177 of more than 18,000 primary close contacts are located outside Melbourne in regional Victoria."
That's why regional Victoria is locked down.
I came across the graphic first in this article: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-07-21/ ... /100307808
I've tried to find the map on the Government's site but I haven't been able to locate it, yet. If anyone comes across that original source, I'd be grateful for a link.

I saw both graphs in the Herald Sun yesterday, before it was published on News.com. I couldn't find them at the source either.
That Red Zone permit one is the scary one for me, although granted not one of those has tested positive.

In Victoria, 22 new local cases and 1 new case acquired overseas (currently in HQ).
- 59,355 test results were received
There are 118 active cases. The Government says that "Of the 22 locally-acquired cases reported, all are linked to the current outbreaks."
I guess the infectious time in the community will be the thing. EDIT: update - the Health Minister says that 16 of the 22 were fully isolated during their infectious period.
Meanwhile, in NSW, "NSW recorded 110 new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8pm last night" and according to their Health Department twitter account:

So, there were at least 60 and up to 73 cases in the community for part or all of their infectious period.Thirty-seven cases were in isolation throughout their infectious period and 17 cases were in isolation for part of their infectious period. Forty-three cases were infectious in the community, and the isolation status of 13 cases remains under investigation.

Impacted more then just NSW

Wouldn't want to get smug about it - but NSW announced more community cases today than Victoria has announced in the whole of its present 9-day outbreak (107).
Meanwhile, Sydney removalists keep coming into Victoria, this time sneaking in without paperwork: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-07-21/ ... /100310504

Definitely wouldn't want to get smug about it as there's still a long way before this NSW outbreak would overtake Victoria 2020.
One thing I'm curious about is this "active in the community" stat. We're in fkn lockdown, we're hardly active unless you're an essential worker, and even then if you're following the rules the prospect of transmission should be tiny.
The same should apply to NSW under the current arrangements

Need to put the Wall of Steel at NSW borders so no one can Sneak In or Sneak Out. Well Essintal Workers but People still can go to Essential Shops and Exercise so community transmission can still happen but hopefully with Lockdown it does not travel as far

The two removalists who's mother died, the father has now tested positive.
Sad story, Mum and the twin sons go to get tested on Thursday, get the results on Friday that they're all positive, she's found dead on Monday
. Apparently a heart attack caused by Covid.

What would happen if you rang 000 told them you were Covid +ve and isolating at home but thought you were having a heart attack? Paramedics would still have to come right? Yeah they'd have full PPE but they couldn't refuse to come?
