^ yes. The only way it works. Hence why I’ve said that could be used for a King type - might need a bit more but gets us on the table.

Ok. Ben King is one I would trade for Maynard. We desperately need key forwards. Still be amazed if it happens. Gold Coast Suns are a cot case. We don’t look so bad by comparison.

Ok, can I just ask where this rumor came from?
Just where has Maynard been linked with anyone or hinting at wanting to leave?
While lotta talk but I haven’t seen any evidence.
You’re making me nervous, but I don’t think I need to be.

Evidence is a rare commodity. In fact it is the gold standard.
Normal currency here is rumours, which have no fixed value.

Like most rumours about players moving clubs, it started because contract extension talks were 'put on hold' even though he's contracted until the end of 2022 (becomes a RFA at that time)

I find it interesting that some posts indicate that if we are forced to trade Maynard, it would quicken a rebuild.

Are we forgetting he is only 24.... and out list is a donut of youth and veterans with nothing in the 23 - 26 range...

His playing position may be replaceable, but his passion, edge and profile on the list are not.

For mine, Maynard is a required player and even if he does indicate he wants to move on, he is contracted for next season... would that give the coach the opportunity to build a bond and get buy in to remain?

There has to be discussion between the new coach and Maynard before he makes a decision I reckon.

Of all players on the list and compared to how we have missed the boat on assessing who has any trade value before they fell away, Maynard is not one of those players. As list profile goes he would have to be retained for not only his physical presence on the field plus for he’s age and experience.
He may just need a cuddle and a feeling of essential at CFC. Hope the new coach panel will work it out.

I really want him to want to stay - if he doesn't his age is irrelevant, especially if we bring in talent around that age. End of day, his unique talent is ability to play tall and small. Id really like to add a string to his bow and hopefully do what Mills for Syd has done as a mid.

Any deal involving Maynard has to be for future first round picks / players.
We cannot sacrifice Maynard for Nick Daicos.

Unless I'm mistaken, I thought Maynard had another year of his contract to go. If that's the case, then our new coach will have all of next year to win him over.

Correct R B. I think the rumourmongering all started when the club asked him to sign an extension during this season and his response was to see who would be the new coach. I don’t see how anyone could have a problem with that.
IF ! he was to be traded this year, it would be very much on our terms and definitely an offer we thought was above market value.

Does he qualify as a RFA by the close of 2022 though?
That would diminish our leverage and/or bargaining power somewhat, and the same time next year?

^ yep exactly right

The original rumour / gossip suggested he wanted to got to Melbourne. This was around the time Bucks left. Then a few weeks later he declined a contract extension.
