And if so, how much of the cap would he chew up?

Would he want that burden of the captaincy, whilst multiple players on much more coin than he is on, just plod around the paddock collecting ineffective possession that gain us bugger meterage forward?
Hope the next coach demands these blokes pull their fingers out of their arses.

That "doom and gloom" you are feeling is the lingering after effects from what we endured on final day of 2020 trade period, and all involved who had to walk the plank in the months following.

If Maynard stays and we can snaffle a few F/A players on the cheap next month, you'll breathe a little easier going into 2022; we all will...

I’d put it this way, do you think a top 10-25 pick key forward is more or less likely to become a successful forward?

I’d say outside top 10 talent i.e. King brothers your looking at a 50/50 shot at best, for every Naughton there is a Fogarty and for every McKay there is a Schache.

I think what Weideman has shown at VFL and sporadically at AFL level puts him ahead of the Fogartys and Schaches. Also his glimpses are that of a real strong marking key forward he has the size and intangibles.

He’s also 23 so you will know within 2 years not have to wait 5 likely Carlton have for McKay

I wouldn’t trade next years pick because that would be most likely top 10 more likely top 5.

But for a pick in the range of late 2nd or early 3rd Round? I’d take a punt.

Charlie Dixon took 5 years to break out and kick 40 goals, and he got 49 games before he broke out

Sam Weideman has played 49 games.

Jay Schulz played 70 games at Richmond before he went to Port Adelaide and became a Coleman medal competing forward.

Riccardi has been good at the VFL level with 18 goals 10 this year but only 2 goals in 9 matches at AFL level. Weideman kicked 21.11 from six VFL games this year.

I'd love to have 'The Weed' in black and white where he belongs. I sense he has simply lacked good coaching. At 23 his best football is still ahead of him, as big guys often take time to mature.

I know we shouldn't base recruitment decisions on emotion, but his Grandpa was one of our greatest leaders on the field, and I remember being at Vic Park the day his son made his debut for us. His career with us proved to be short-lived, but that was mainly due to him not being fully committed to becoming a professional footballer.

Now if we could snare Weideman as well as Ed Richards......whoops....I'm getting too emotionally carried away now.

We need a key forward who can the take the heat and still deliver, not a key forward who relies on others taking the heat for him.
I just haven’t seen enough from Weideman to make me think he could ever be the number one banana.
