Yep ok we can trade these picks and there are so many different angles to look at/from.
Wright said Maynard is going no where, which is a relief.
Only ones I would trade are Sier and Cox but even then its hard to say. What if the club sees Sier as a hard body that we need and have seen him turn the corner in the last couple months ??
I would think Cox has some value and there are clubs crying out for talls.
My hope is that we get enough points from Cox and Sier to allow us to not go into deficit next year and we can pick up a couple free agents that we dont need to trade for, midfielders x 2 preferable.

Too bad all the half backs Hine drafted [Scharenberg/Freeman] spent most of their careers in the medical rooms than on the field.MJ23 wrote:Umm, Jake was rookied at the crows and took some time to come on - at a time when we had half backs coming out of our ears and Stewart did nothing at GWS and hardly set the world on fire at Essendon.piedys wrote:Namely Jake Kelly at Cows, and Stewart at Doperland.MJ23 wrote:Also, we have actually passed on a few we did not rate
More of Hine's ineptitude laid bare for the football world to see.
If you wanted an example of getting it wrong Id suggest Picken
We could have got Kelly for nothing.
Stewart certainly took some time to mature, but at least we would have had the luxury to develop him in VFL, before making a call.
And Craig went ballistic at the club over this, and rightly so.
Selecting Stewart would have cost us either Kennedy or Broomhead; win/win.
Picken was another mistake for sure, but if he would have commanded a spot in the teams of 2010/2011 when we peaked, is debateable.
I think his best form arrived for Welfare well after our window had closed, with the departure of Malthouse.
I'm not a Madgen basher, but I'd feel more confident having Stewart or Kelly match up on those bigger bodied forwards, down back.Presti35 wrote:Stewart is just ok. Injury hasnt helped, but he is not an AA calibre player. I dont think he's done anything to suggest we made a mistake not drafting him.
Kelly has been good for the Crows and would have been worth the risk in the rookie draft. (I believe we re-drafted Gault that year?). Kelly might find himself at Collingwood after this years free agency period ends. I think he is a much better version of Madgen.
Picken didnt nominate father-son selection? I think he played for Willy before the Dogs took him as a 22 year old? I dont know the full story here, but it would have been sensational to see him win a flag with the Pies.
We may or may not retrieve Kelly at F/A trade period; if we do, it is just another example of Hine fixing his shit, and costing us more than we should have initially parted with in the process.

Very sadly, poor Mason Cox was never the same once he got that very bad eye injury, he was nearly blinded, we should show some empathy too him poor guy. Before that awful injury he was good up forward, and around the ground. He will retire id say, wisih him all the best, Never forget that 2018 PF, he tore the Tigers to shreds. Good luck Mason. Id love Weidemann to come to us, his Grand father hated the Deees, be great to have a Weidemann back at the Woods, and what about Ted Richards, he struggles to get a game with the Dogs, any chance there at all ?

Funnily enough, I watched an APS game back in Brander’s and Murphy’s draft year. Brander was on fire at C H B, so Brighton Grammar sent Murphy onto him to give Brander something to think about. Murphy totally obliterated him and he kicked something like four in half a game of footy on Brander. The rest is history. I’m not quite the fan of Brander that some seem to be but he could walk into our side and pretty much play wherever he wanted to.Boogie Knights wrote:I certainly hope your WA footy mate is on the money here and it can be done without either depleting our draft capital too much or losing a required player. Brander is going to be a gun. Has the mobility of a small forward at 195cm. He's not really your contested marking beast, but is very good on the lead. Very handy when it hits the deck too.Pies2016 wrote:WA footy mate has been telling me for 12 months that we’re into Jarrod Brander. I don’t get excited by rumours for obvious reasons but the planets are slowly aligning on this one. He’s out of contract and he won’t re sign, he’s a Vic lad and he’s not happy because he’s being played out of position. ( he’s 195cm and was playing on the wing before his injury ) He’s played both key back and forward throughout his early career. West coast Eagles have also publicly declared the next couple years are all about the draft. So how do we get it done ?
Potentially Collingwood would give up their future first rounder and receive Brander and the Eagles future first rounder in return. There may also be some fluff and padding added in just to help both clubs feel like they have won from the deal.
The beauty with a trade like this is that Collingwoods future first can easily sold as a pointy end pick in the 2022 draft, while the Eagles will sell their pick as a mid range first round pick. We can’t fall any lower but the Eagles can and this is where we may get a win. We would still go to the 2022 draft with a first rounder and that gives us plenty of flexibility leading up to the night.
You can replace Brander and insert any quality player you want but any deal that includes a swap of future first round picks between us and another club is a safe and sound strategy. Collingwood would inject instant quality into the team and still have a first rounder in the 2022 draft. Obviously the best outcome is to do that deal with any club who goes backwards from their 2021 season but those trades don’t come with crystal balls.
If he does want out of West Coast (which appears likely), we'd be crazy not to have a crack.

You've got the same problem with Jake Kelly as you've got with Madgen. He's not tall enough to stand any tall forward opponents. And in fact Madgen is a better kick and handballer than Jake Kelly. The only real advantage in recruiting Jake Kelly is uniting him with his brother. He doesn't offer us any improvement in the side. The other one I don't like is Brander. Simpson is one of the best coaches in the business. If he can't get anything out of Brander I don't see how we can. If Brander was any good as a forward they would be lining him up to replace Kennedy when Kennedy retires.piedys wrote:Too bad all the half backs Hine drafted [Scharenberg/Freeman] spent most of their careers in the medical rooms than on the field.MJ23 wrote:Umm, Jake was rookied at the crows and took some time to come on - at a time when we had half backs coming out of our ears and Stewart did nothing at GWS and hardly set the world on fire at Essendon.piedys wrote: Namely Jake Kelly at Cows, and Stewart at Doperland.

My fear is that with a player like Brander, can he be the key #1 forward that we need? I'd almost prefer to persist with Darcy Cameron, rotating him with Grundy and leaving Mihocek to be the 2nd forward.
Having another option would be nice of course, so long as it's a bloke who smashes packs and can take contested 1v1 grabs.
No point paying overs for a decoy forward if a genuine #1 might be available in the next couple of years (ala King).

Sentimentally I would like Weideman and Richards because they are grandsons of Collingwood Premiership players, but actually.....
Sam Weideman may be a tall forward but his playing style is nothing like his grandad's. Murray was a vigorous, physical player (probably more physical than would be possible in the 21st Century). He intimidated his opponents. Great Centre Half-Forwards intimidate their opponents (e.g Brereton, Carey, Jonathan Brown). Sam Weideman doesn't intimidate anyone. He takes nice marks (sometimes) and is a reasonable kick and doesn't get his hands on the ball all that much.
Ed Richards is more like his grandfather and great uncle. I would like to see him at Collingwood but I don't think that is going to happen. The Bulldogs have recontracted him and he seems pretty happy there.

Born and raised in Black and White
We got Daicos and C Brown. On the Daicos alone we are breakeven with the Witts trade.MC's Mix wrote:Letting Lynch go reminds me too much of letting Witts go a few years back. We all knew how good he was, yet got nowhere near the proper value for him. (Although we DID get Josh Daicos with the 60-odd pick I guess..)
Unless it's an offer too good to refuse, we should hold out.

So Sam is more Mark Weideman than Murray?

Cox is finished. Weideman's never impressed me every time I've seen him in Melbourne's senior team.
Ed Richards re-signed with the Dogs recently.

I would chase Talia, move Roughead to CHB and Moore to CHF. This would give us a solid spine for 2 years while our young talls develop - problem solved
I would also put Cox, Thomas, Madgen and Sier on the trade table and see what we can get - delist Cox and Sier if no interest and keep the others for depth
