Clearly prone to poor decision making, but weren’t Swanny, Dids, Shaw et al guilty of the same indiscretions at that age?
Our best first year player in a decade and should never have been traded…

What players do in their own time is their business. Our mistake is thinking that the players are angels. They're not. It only matters how they perform on a footy field. When they hold up the premiership trophy aloft on grand final day none of us will be thinking what the players are doing at home. That department leave to the mothers of the players or the unlucky partners of the players.
Not in the "woke days" we operate under these days. Over to you Daman "North Fan" Barrett to investigate how many "non house mates" were actually there

Saying nice things about Collingwood doesn’t sell papers or get high ratings. So the answer to your question is NO!

…and meanwhile Callum Brown, Josh Thomas and the Hoss continue to get games in our forward half under no selection pressure whilst withering on the vine.

The kid won rookie of the year, scorched us into a GF with raw pace and goal kicking smarts and was discarded (not traded) at the drop of a hat.

I agree that it’s a professional sport and sponsors and corporate image are a concern…. But talent is talent. And we are clearly in sort supply in that department.

Its not nice that he got injured but its no surprise and its his fault.

Collingwood did their due diligence and traded him. Period.
Not many in the media saw it as a responsible thing for CFC to do and move JS on to another club because its not news worthy is it ?

I mean why would Collingwood try and protect their sponsors stake holders ?? Why would they remove a negative role model from the squad ?? I wonder why ???
Heaven knows what JS did behind the scenes that we dont know about.
Yes you can argue that we held onto the rat pack and all the other players of concern but most of them would say they were lucky to get away with staying in the AFL system. Ask Swanny how lucky he was and ask him how Eddie was good enough to managed him through those turbulent years.

Its not like JS wasnt aware of his responsibilities either especially with the hard line that Buckley held. Warnings were given and Im sure he had a couple chances under Bux as well but enough became enough and standards had to be held and rightly so. When you have sponsors dollars in the balance stupidity can only be tolerated so much.

Good call by Collingwood I say. Wonder if the media will acknowledge the decision, probs not.
FWIW JS should have been worth more than what we got but after all the salary mis management JS became the obvious target and thankfully 1 little ol club put their hands up...thanx Norf ..your problem now!!
As long Stepho is in the AFL and playing Good Footy they always try and make it look Collingwood made a Huge Mistake pretty much getting Rid fo Stepho

Betting on games of football, continued allegations of off field poor behaviour, uneducated opinions shared on social media about COVID and now breaking his hip falling off a BMX when drunk.

Stephenson won the Rising Star award so it's hard to say Hine got the talent identification part wrong but boy he sure dropped the ball this time when evaluating his character and intelligence.

The sooner Stephenson moves to South Carolina, buys himself a make American great again cap, a confederate flag, the sooner he'll know he's found his place in the world and be happy.

They are pro footballers on huge money, big contracts, so it is the clubs business, very much so, North and Noble would be spewing over this, over his utter stupidity, blind drunk on a bike, an accident waiting to happen, hes lucky it wasnt a lot more serious. Once a clown, always a irresponsible clown, and a clown on very big money, paid by North Melb. :o

-PiesnChess

So as a list manager you would discard proven ‘clowns’ such as -
Martin, Degoey, Kelly, Stack, Whitfield, Franklin, Greene, Mumford, Stringer, Robbo, Rioli, Libratore, Wingard, Dixon…. (the list is endless) ???

Those clowns didn't turn the whole club against them. This tool.did.

He did lose the players. That's the difference.

By the ‘Whole Club’ do you mean Buckley?
There has not been a public fallout between Stevo and our playing group, and judging from social media he’s still tight with a number of pies players.

Clearly a stupid kid who’s exceptionally talented and seems to have been trashed due to a personality clash with a coach who is on longer at the club.
At best this was an extremely poor trade.

I’ve seen the hotel CCTV and know people involved, I’ve spoken to people at the club and know what happened in the hub. So don’t even begin to pretend it was all because Buckley didn’t like him. <Snip - Please stop posting defamatory allegations. Thanks BBMods> . But do carry on how exceptionally talented poor misunderstood Jaiden is, especially when only ONE club entertained trading for him and only after Geoff Walsh did some middle man negotiating. Such an exceptional misunderstood taken, and only North said yes.

The evidence is mounting; no longer one or two indiscretions, a definite line of form.

He might turn the corner, or just become one of those flash in the pan dickheads; either way its best to have him off the list at our stage of development.

Which is not to say we didn't get burnt on the trade

Never said he was misunderstood. He clearly has behavioural issues that need to be corrected.

As you stated there were no suitors for his services, so why get rid of him when he has no currency?
We’ve seen premiership clubs like Richmond and West Coast put troubled players on ice for a season before gradually bringing them back into the fold.

Trading a top ten pick - who kicked 38 goals and won the rising star on the way to a GF birth - for peanuts, was not a business decision. It was an emotional one.

No one wanted to trade for him though, and that’s the best deal we could get. Talent only takes you so far, the rest is attitude. After the betting scandal, he should have pulled his head in. He didn’t, and still didn’t think he did anything wrong,

The thing is, despite all I just posted about Stevo, I actually have sympathy for the bike accident and think it’s not as bad as it’s made out. Accidents happen, young blokes get drunk and do silly things. He’s not the first and he won’t be the last player to get injured playing frisbee with their dog. Geez, if we all knew what other players get up to end of season

There would have been alot of emotion involved and we took a chance on a fella with a heart condition for which he was on medication for.
He had prodigious talent but I think it made sense for the club to trade him once it was obvious it had backed itself into a corner with the salary mismanagement.

So we knew we had to go into the draft to ease salary cap pressure instead of trading for ready made players on big coin. This meant there were going to be many young impressionable players coming into the club and maybe the club thought it had to create a stable environment with good people (leaders). Stevo couldnt adhere to the rules and culture Bux was trying to create.

The people to blame for the clubs predicament are now gone and I want to keep looking forward, what is done is done.
