So here’s my take on a REALISTIC outcome for our trading period -
1 ) free agent signing ( either delisted, restricted or unrestricted ) No trade involved. Anticipated best 22 player and chosen to satisfy immediate needs.
2 ) trade in one best 22 player. Would need to figure as a long term prospect and we should assume any trade would be fair market value. Possible fringe player swap and / or late second, early third round draft pick going out ( possibly future )
3 ) #2 pick in pre season draft. Likely best 22 player who comes with no trade attached.
4 ) trading out of multiple ( 2 - 4 ) fringe players. Required to free up cap room for above and gain us a few precious late picks for Daicos.
There’s a lot of opportunity at Collingwood with so many holes on our list.
I think we would now be seen as desirable enough to play for but our limited trading stocks and cap space will ultimately inhibit the quality of who we bring in next year.
I don’t think we can instantly become a destination club based on a few days that made us fans happy. A lot of hard bargaining and negotiation needs to happen just to get half the players we are apparently interested in. The good news is that we will have an experienced and cagey recruitment team led by Wrighty who know the hoops and jumps required. Will be interesting to see.
Don't confuse your current path with your final destination. Just because it's dark and stormy now doesn't meant that you aren't headed for glorious sunshine!
^ yeah but Lipinski does not nominate us without having had some discussion.
I think McRae will attract players now, especially if we land a couple of the senior assistants with him.
I dont buy into the cap issue we supposedly have - there are a lot of reasons a footy director would want that to be what the industry thinks is the case

1. new coach sees what he could be and believes he can get the best out of him. In this case he stays perhaps on a 1 year deal.
2. new coach is happy to use him for some currency and a coach right now at another club believes point 1. We use him for another fringe player or points for Daicos.

Get the vibe from Macrae's comments that he is leaving the list management "deductions" to Wright who has obvious better visibility on those relevant. Think we shall see:
* Cox: off to a team like the Gold Coast for a late pick or a swap for Brodie
* Sier: off to a team like the Hawks or Swans for a late late pick
* Lynch: would be suited to the Dogs with perhaps a Lipinski link albeit they'll prefer draft points for Sam Darcy
* Thomas: free agent but shall be lucky to find a suitor and we shall get nothing in return unless we do an Angus Monfries "clayton's trade" for a nominal unused pick from said club.
