I don’t think we can instantly become a destination club based on a few days that made us fans happy. A lot of hard bargaining and negotiation needs to happen just to get half the players we are apparently interested in. The good news is that we will have an experienced and cagey recruitment team led by Wrighty who know the hoops and jumps required. Will be interesting to see.

Being a destination club is about giving players an opportunity, not making fans feel all warm and fuzzy after a coaching appointment.
We’ve got plenty of holes to fill. If depth players at other clubs want to play senior footy at the G every second week in front of decent crowds, then you will consider Collingwood.
There will be fire sales at other clubs this off season, some for cap reasons and some because they need to get back into the draft and rebuild now.
We haven’t added a plug and play footballer onto our list in two seasons, so we have to get busy or we will continue to play catch up against others.
In this off season, we will not likely get a better chance to add a couple ready made players onto our list and still give up so little at the same time.

I think McRae will attract players now, especially if we land a couple of the senior assistants with him.

I dont buy into the cap issue we supposedly have - there are a lot of reasons a footy director would want that to be what the industry thinks is the case

100 % about the cap. Also, considering nearly half our list will have played less than 50 games at the start of next year, no one will ever convince me we haven’t got something tucked away for the right player or two.

There is no doubt we have spoken to Lipinski. No one in their right mind would walk away from a three year deal unless they had at least “ very positive conversations “ with another club or two. And we wouldn’t waste our time either if we thought we couldn’t entertain both the contract and the trade outcome ( or PSD )

Lipinski the right age too - not a complete rookie, but not 28 either. Hopefully nicely prepared to play 20+ games (if that trade could get done) in 2022.

Other posters on the forum have flagged some more experience dlayers (particularly around the contest) to wear some of the heat. We dont want to wind up with a Cripps from our young crop who is broken by the time they are 26... I view it in some way as the kind of role Greenwood played and to a lesser extent Rupert Wills, but that Sier hasnt been able to replicate since 2018.

Get the vibe from Macrae's comments that he is leaving the list management "deductions" to Wright who has obvious better visibility on those relevant. Think we shall see:

* Cox: off to a team like the Gold Coast for a late pick or a swap for Brodie
* Sier: off to a team like the Hawks or Swans for a late late pick
* Lynch: would be suited to the Dogs with perhaps a Lipinski link albeit they'll prefer draft points for Sam Darcy
* Thomas: free agent but shall be lucky to find a suitor and we shall get nothing in return unless we do an Angus Monfries "clayton's trade" for a nominal unused pick from said club.

The more I thought about it, I’d be inclined to keep Thomas. I think he thrived with our 2018 attacking style. The game plan since hasn’t suited him.

Really would like to keep Lynch if he’s willing to be second fiddle.

I would keep Sier.
But I would be in a minority there.
