I still kinda hope we can get Sam Weideman back "home" from the Deees, hes not bad up forward, can take a grab, good kick, and be great to have another "Weed" at the Club, he wont get a game with the Dees now. Just saying.

sorry, I was referencing our need for A-grade mids. Some we might already have and we wont know until they develop. Some we may need to brig in or Draft.Pies2016 wrote:^ ^ ^
MJ23, To me, the interest in Stephens is pretty simple.
If the club are “ bullish “ he’s a best 22 player for the next few years, then we’re obliged to show interest, particularly if the trade was looking like unders.
Im sure we’re now both a very different and better club under Wright, so you put your faith in him and the footy dept to get it right.
What we don’t want, is to be contracting three new fringe players who cost us $800,000 in total and then we’re automatically out of the game when a quality free agent KPF is available.
I accept finding a focal point is usually the last piece of the premiership window puzzle. Most dynasty teams tended to have built defence and mids first and then polished up the team with a key forward to kick to.
As I said, in the case of players like Lipinski and possibly Stephens, you’re trusting the club to correctly assess that players full potential.
Im not a big fan of Stephens - IF he were to come to us Id be more than happy to be proven wrong. Right now hes got younger kids going past him at the Swans. I saw Lipinski live and liked what I saw.

He wont get a game at the Dees because he is below average he wont get a game at Collingwood for same reason. Prefer we look at someone like Schlensog if we're after KPP types. Firstly because I don't particularly rate the Weid on what we've seen to date, and secondly because of potential trade price as a DFA.Piesnchess wrote:I still kinda hope we can get Sam Weideman back "home" from the Deees, hes not bad up forward, can take a grab, good kick, and be great to have another "Weed" at the Club, he wont get a game with the Dees now. If I'm not mistaken we can also add him to the list via PSS after we draft ND meaning we retain vacant list spots for ND points.

Adelaide had draft sanctions applied in 2012. Between that and the 2002 Carlton incident you mentioned, multiple clubs (including us) received financial penalties:piedys wrote:As I recall, no AFL club has been penalised for a salary cap breach since Carlton nearly 20 years ago

Herald Sun - Sam Landsberger, Jon Ralph, Glenn McFarlane and Jay Clark wrote:Uncertainty surrounds key forward at Dees
Sam Weideman is no certainty to be offered a new AFL contract as the full-forward’s career reaches uncertainty.
It is understood that Melbourne was yet to make Weideman an offer and rival interest from the 17 other clubs was also skinny.
Weideman played five consecutive games from Rounds 9-13 this season.
The tall forward, 24, has booted 49 goals in 49 games since he was taken at No.9 in 2015.

Mitch Brown has a one year deal in front of him, so I wouldn’t have thought that bodes well for Weed. Similar tall forward types, one with an offer and one without and neither currently getting a game. B. Brown, Jackson and McDonald all ahead of them both.

That means we can get him cheap. Under our new coaches, he will be transformed into a champion player!Rd10.1998_11.1#36 wrote:Averages over those 5 games:Magpie Russ wrote:Weideman played five consecutive games from Rounds 9-13 this season

He is probably a better bet for a year or two than Lynch [Crows DFA] or Jenkins [likely to be cut at Geebung].
If he spends half the season in the medical room, so be it. It will be cheap bargain get, without a warranty; buyer beware.
Sick of people throwing up duds like this just because they may be "available".
Have we not learned?
