We could have gone for Peter Wright, cost bugger all and Suns paying part of his salary, but he's at Essendon now.

Dons out of the running for Stephens, it's down to the Swans or us according to Tom Morris, 2 year deal in front of him to stay with Sydney.

He played 4 good games and 1 outstanding game. If it wasn’t for that 7-goal haul he’d be marked as a first year failure. Got nowhere near it in that final. Looked fantastic against an undersized WB defence under the roof, and kicked 7.0. I was a 2MP fan and wished we tried to get him, but I reckon he’s an old school prototype now.

That means we can get him cheap. Under our new coaches, he will be transformed into a champion player!
I think thats what most of us have been saying - you would ONLY take him if we got him cheap because by now he really should be in the Dees senior team and they should not have had to pursue Brown. They know he isnt developing or he would be played.

Some had said at one stage a swap for Maynard. ???

Dees will want a heap cause he was a first rd pick and the supporters expect it. He aint worth anything near that and he aint worth a Maynard.

So if he is forced out of Pink ducks cap, do we take him?

He is probably a better bet for a year or two than Lynch [Crows DFA] or Jenkins [likely to be cut at Geebung].
If he spends half the season in the medical room, so be it. It will be cheap bargain get, without a warranty; buyer beware.
No more old hacks. Stick with youngsters.
Sick of people throwing up duds like this just because they may be "available".
Have we not learned?
Yep. Unless he is available for nothing much so we can have a reserve KPP.

He did a Derek Shaw in the bulldogs final with zero kicks

Chol and Tahlia can walk to other clubs for free.

Why are we not in the conversations for these two?
Keep hearing Essendon and Richmonds name but not us, why?

Its a given that we cant afford to give up picks or too many players as we are in a tight corner, but lets get some bodies in that are free!!

Hopefully trade Cox and Sier for picks so we get ND YD and next years first round pick stays the same. So optimally we get a few free agents and why wouldnt they want to come to us with the youthfulness of our list, they would get game time almost guaranteed.

Yes we are into Lapinski but thats about it.

To be fair, Chol is in the sweet spot of his footy career ( however that looks )
He will have suitors, so this coming contract will be very likely be his biggest.
We may simply not be in the race.
The likes of Talia and Lynch etc are in different positions. They are waiting on clubs to come to them. It may be us, it may not but the other issue for senior players ( likely parents ) in this situation is how much they factor in the Covid situation if they are forced to move interstate in order to continue their careers for one or two more years.
And finally, the smart clubs keep their cards to their chest. Just because Collingwood isn’t automatically linked to anyone over 6’ 3”, doesn’t mean to say we aren’t down the track with them, it may simply mean the conversations are discreet.
If we were to snag two best 22 players into next years team, regardless of their height, I would call that a win, especially considering the predicament we were in less than 12 months ago.

Agree
I think we supporters need to get our heads around the fact that this is not a "normal" time for us. We started a list re-build last year and arguably brought in as many kids last year as a typical re-build does over two years.

We really shouldn't be looking at any "short term" fixes. They will just take a spot from a player we are wanting to develop. Id suggest also we are building a list strategy and looking at these players being mentioned with a view on what they offer on field as well as salary.

Added to all of that is not just a new senior coach appointment but two very senior assistants wit strategy in mind plus to top it all off - Graham Wright

Im happy trusting Wright - we might miss one or two now but Im confident he will land what we need and when we need it

As do Cameron and Cox.
Wright has indicated he wants a genuine KPF.
It really comes down to what’s available and what we can afford.
It unlikely we’re going to unearth a bonafide spearhead this year, but if the Weid is going at a bargain basement price, and is willing to come to the Club, then why wouldn’t we look at it?

It protects our kids development and takes the heat off checkers. All the Weid has to do is play a McStay type role and provide a contest and structure. Look at Schaches’ last month at the dogs. Everyone had written him off but he’s been worth his weight in gold at the pointy end of the season.

Was just thinking about Schache when I read your comment. Now one swallow does not a summar make, but there would be plenty who were saying he was no good, who are now singing his praises after contributing to big finals wins. Just because he played 5 games and averaged 4 kicks, does it mean he cant play football? I have to say that the first 50 games of Tom Hawkins career were horrible, but he eventually took his chances and look what he's delivered to that mob in the last decade.

Could Weideman be someone like that? Perhaps he cant, (or hasnt been at Melbourne) but we have set up a coaching panel tailor-made to develop players (something in my view we havent been that great at in the past). It probably boils down to the asking price doesnt it...
It's never as good/nor bad as it seems...
