It really comes down to what’s available and what we can afford.
It unlikely we’re going to unearth a bonafide spearhead this year, but if the Weid is going at a bargain basement price, and is willing to come to the Club, then why wouldn’t we look at it?

It protects our kids development and takes the heat off checkers. All the Weid has to do is play a McStay type role and provide a contest and structure. Look at Schaches’ last month at the dogs. Everyone had written him off but he’s been worth his weight in gold at the pointy end of the season.
Hmmmm, not sure your arguments pass the pub test. I agree, we'd love a KPF, but don't see how recruiting 1 that doesn't offer any more, or arguably even as much, as the current hybrid KPF/rucks we already have helps us.

Ditto Schache. Keeping him on the list for a few games at the end of his 4th year at the Doggies isn't really a strong argument. Yes, he may now go on and deliver on the potential that warranted a pick 2 in the ND, but there are still no guarantees.

Much rather see Kelly, Begg, Johnson and McMahon given the opportunity.

Unless we're getting Ben King this season, don't waste any money and get him next season when he is uncontracted.

Kelly 21 194cm defender / forward ??
Johnson 23 193cm ( and plays tall )
Cameron 26 200cm part time ruck and forward
Cox 30 211cm part time ruck and forward

Weideman 24 195cm forward only

I can’t see the benefit of any investment but that’s just me.
I would rather hope / assume at least one of those current Pies players improves until such time we can secure a KPF who would blow all of the above off the park and make the that position his own.

Mitch Brown has a one year deal in front of him, so I wouldn’t have thought that bodes well for Weed. Similar tall forward types, one with an offer and one without and neither currently getting a game. B. Brown, Jackson and McDonald all ahead of them both.
Add to ^^^
Chol to GC, Coleman-Jones to North, Finalyson to Port...
IF we want Weidman he would come cheap because/or we could walk him to the Pre-Season draft.

I think the general theory for a rebuilding side like us would be to get the mids and defence set, with a few project bigs to grow with the young mids... then by the time you're entering your sweet spot, you know if any of those bigs will pan out. If yes, great, if no, that's when you go to market for an established one.

We have McMahon, Begg and Johnson still to debut, and Kelly (under previous coaches) was playing permanent forward; and, who know what Bassirou Faye will become (if anything). I'd like to know what we've already got before we go chasing a reclamation project from another club.

Those wanting Weid on the cheap, would you have as much interest if he went by any other name (not Collingwood related)? He'll be 25 early next season, and has not shown the development you would expect (even of a tall) for this point in his career relative to his draft position (or draft peers). He could make it, but at this point the liklihood is not good, and with reduced playing list numbers, you really can't afford to carry someone just because you got him cheap.

Let's see what we already have first as they're younger and will benefit from what looks like a development focused coaching group. It's much harder to develop someone at 25 than 20...

Jesse White came cheap
Not sure why a cheap KPF recruit is considered a great solution
Wait a year and draft one or see who is up for trade

Unless Wright has a rabbit he’s planning on pulling out of his hat, he’s after the Weid.

Magic Johnson may surprise us all and play key forward, but it’s unlikely given his limited time in senior footy.
Begg and McMahon are children. Literally. McMahons’ career has already been impacted by a severe concussion. If we get 5-10 games of senior footy out of each next season it will be a major win.
Kelly is an injury prone swing-man who has played the majority of his junior footy as a backman.

There is a reason the doggies have Schache on the books.
There is also a reason McStay is one of Brisbane’s most structurally important players. He doesn’t set the world on fire, but without him they are an absolute rabble. It’s not all about pack marks, goals and stats.

We have the list space, so if he’s cheap and available it seems like the Wright fit.

Coleman-Jones reported to join the roos on a 4yr deal.

That leaves the weed out of roos plans and one less club that he can join...

Other than us, who could he join if he doesn't stay at dees?

I prefer others but if it costs us next to nothing, we have nothing to lose.

As do Cameron and Cox.
The problems with Cox are:

1. He has been on far too much money and needs to take a massive cut (like 50%) even to be considered to stay
2. How many forward/ruck combos do we really need?
3. If we want Lipinski (or whoever) and no future draft deficit, we need to trade out someone who actually has some value to another team, which could be Mason

Which clubs do you reckon would value Cox at the moment? Genuine question because I think clubs would prefer others to him, given his recent very ordinary performances.

He is a ruckman who has played forward nearly every game.
Not his correct position.
A side like St kilda might take him.
He and King could swing each way.
Second The Hawks never develop ruckman so he could slot in there
.And lastly Richmond might be interested.
He would be going really cheap both salary wise and draft pick wise

Yeah a club that needs a ruckman... add Dogs and GCS (backup/fill in for Witts) to the list above
