Authoritarian Governments.

Post by stui magpie »

It is mid 2019
I describe a scenario to you.
There’s a place where the Government has put harsh restrictions on the population. Examples include:
• A Curfew
• Stay at home orders in place
• Travel limitations, 5-10 km from home
• Requirement to show papers proving you’re authorised if you’re found breaching the above orders or else penalties
• Public and private gatherings banned
• Public Transport shut down to inhibit protest demonstrations
• Children banned from going to school
• Borders closed
I ask you, where in the world would you think that could happen? What is your answer?

You missed the bit about all this being dependant upon that government maintaining majority support in parliament. Carry on though...

That is sort of the point though, no one would have ever associated these restrictions with a first world democracy prior to Covid.

Bit cheeky if you don't disclose why these restrictions were set up though.

If you'd said 'pandemic' I'd know right away you were talking about Sydney

Or maybe not. Even without a pandemic it'd be pretty clearly a response to global warming heating up

Not cheeky, you're arguing that the ends justifies the means? We don't have a right to expect better from a democratically elected government?
