And a single raindrop never caused a flood either. As I said earlier, Collingwood have developed a nasty habit of signing one-sided contracts, so clearly I am not talking about Cox in isolation bit rather using him as an example. I’m sure nobody is forgetting the Wells and Beams debacles, the big money we brought Mayne across on, Grundy’s 7 year deal etc.

Mason’s triggers, whatever they were, gave him a 4th year in which he played 7 senior games while also earning more money than ever before. If you think there’s nothing wrong with that, we’ll theres the problem. Nothing to do with Mason or his agent or honoring contracts: we (the club) failed to manage his (and others) contracts effectively. It’s poor governance which comes back to the board and our former president

Will cost nothing, is lightning-quick and an accurate kick.
Could be our running half back option if Noble is traded...
Has a look at that. They say his pace and foot skills are elite, but his injuries have taken it out of him. Originally from Geelong and still only 22. Was pick 14 in 2017 and played 4 games during his 4 years at the Swans.

The 184cm left-footer suffered from serious toe and achilles injuries, keeping him sidelined for most of his first two years in Sydney.

Apparently he has a great attitude. I wonder if the Cats will take a look?

Brander is also an intriguing one.

195cm Key Forward, 22 games with WCE. Touted as a successor to Josh Kennedy. What went wrong?

They have Oscar Allen, but Darling and Kennedy are getting up there now.

Originally from Bendigo, he's worth a look, but he has not kicked a lot of goals. Some suggest he is a tall mid rather than key forward. Interesting.
I’d like to see us add another KP type. I think KPD is the greatest priority. Interesting discussion I reckon as to whether you go with a Brander or Krueger type who are still on a list or a Schlensog who is available as a DFA. Just don’t know enough about these 3 to make a call but given our draft position I do think Schlensog is an attractive option. Seems to have greater forward - defensive flexibility as well.

For Cox to give up a very high paying job offer, Pies had to make the dollars worth it and we were bidding against other clubs - it was cat b rookie so no real impact to cap - why not.

Problem was, when we had to elevate him he was in the best form of his life, had demolished Richmond and again other offers came in. Couldnt exactly cut the money he was already on as a rookie.

Still, Id have thought there were literally hundreds of cases where a player was paid on promise and performance to date and then not lived up to the dollars - shit look at Coniglio right now.

The bottom line is he didn't deliver. You can make all sorts of reasons for his poor form but at the end of the day the player has to justify his position in the team because you've got players underneath the senior team who are pushing for spots in the team and a player in poor form is keeping someone out. Fallacy to say Cox wasn't given a go this year. Buckley initially had him in the team before dropping him. Then Harvey gave him his spot back in the team and persevered with him until he had no option but to drop him again. I watched Cox play against Richmond reserves after he got dropped. In that game he did nothing in the first half. Then he kicked a great goal in the last quarter to bring the team back into the game in which they won by less than a goal. Cox is a bit like Sier except he appears to try harder than Sier. Both show enormous promise but neither does enough to justify their positions in the team. You don't build football teams on promises. You build a football team around who you think can hold their own against good opposition sides.

I think Lipinski is the clubs #1 target. We'll see what happens after the GF. After that I think maybe Kreuger and Weideman will be targeted from that list.
If we can snaffle one or two of those KPPs for a bargain, then we are back in the hunt for the eight in 2022, but the cards are really going to have to fall our way to do so...

Don’t think players shoulder responsibility for TPP and salary cap pressure in this professional era, but it is still difficult to fathom how Cox ended up on $600-650K/year (Allegedly).

Is there any concrete data on how this contract ballooned into such a bamboozling figure?

Can kick 50, has pace, can take pack marks, looks smart, tackles hard... Can't get in behind Hawkins, but wha would the Cats let him go when Hawkins is coming up to 34 and Krueger is 22?

Would like to see his VFL stats and know more about him.

Might depend on Henderson’s future. If Henderson finishes up, that might be a reason for Krueger to stay on. Scarlett loves his pet back 6 / 7 always playing together and Krueger isn’t part of that, so the possibility of Scarlett moving on might also open up chances he may not have otherwise had.
I think the dust needs to settle at the Cats before Krueger makes the call on staying or going and there is a shed load going on behind the scenes down at the cattery.

Is Luke Dunstan someone we should be talking to?

185cm, inside mid, turns 27 in January. Has been delisted by St Kilda.

Can he be signed as a DFA, or will he need to go into the draft?
