He's been suspended while an investigation is conducted which is the appropriate thing to happen.
It is not an open and shut case and everything we need to know is not on the video.
The investigation needs to know background, context, how was he behaving in the moments/minutes prior to this, had he already been moved on before.
If the bloke who got slammed wants the cop charged with assault, he needs to make a complaint otherwise it won't happen.
Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down.
Or he could sue the cop for assault, seeking, amongst other things, exemplary damages. That claim would be decided on the balance of probabilities. I'm quite confident of that which a jury would conclude on the balance of probabilities, here.
Violent wrongdoers benefit, routinely, from the criminal standard of proof. People who want to challenge these sorts of unacceptable behaviours need to think smarter.
Plus as shitty as it is, it’s part of the job. If you’re going to get that easily triggered that you overreact then maybe policing just isn’t for him.
At the same time I hope the investigation includes looking into their orders for the day. The cops were very clearly given free reign to do whatever they liked against the protesters and some clearly took it too far.
But if command is giving them too much leeway then some of the blame needs to fall back on them.
