Heard he has had Concussion Issues
Well that’s a buzzkill, Dave. He does like to “ engage in the contest “, so there may be something in it. If we’ve had our eye on him for 12 months, you would think we would have an understanding of any issues medically related.
Loll... thanx DTM youre not a buzz kill, just tellin it like it is.

He does look like a beast at the contest so if we get a couple years out of him it might be all we can ask for. Hopefully we have learnt from previous trades with suspect bodies.

According to the AFL site:

- Brisbane has thrown its hat into the ring for contracted Geelong big man Darcy Fort, as the club continues its search for ruck depth. Levi Casboult and Mason Cox have also been linked with the Lions.

As to our salary cap issues, well we finished 17th, so we must have some overpaid players on our list.
I know the point you are making but I find it difficult to follow the logic behind it. Does that mean that Melbourne had heaps of underpaid players?

Just visited the Collingwood draft order
Only Melbourne has a crappy draft order but not as bad as ours
However, Melbourne just won the flag
Guess other clubs don't mind us looking like the laughing stock of the draft period!

signed: Unhappy

...still I think we are in goods hands and I am optimistic for next year.

Getting the best kid in the land and could be all sorts of deals on the night

I'd have a look at a few delisted players as well

Cousins is the right age https://www.hawthornfc.com.au/players/1 ... es-cousins

Ling if he got over his injuries would bring some much needed speed, he's a first rounder

McRae should know enough about Naish to say yea or nay

Doesn't other factors come into it as well. A side on the up has the luxury of front loading contracts before their players demand higher salaries due to improvement. When and if they reach the pinnacle they have the capacity to pay a higher rate as they have players who have a lesser expense at this time.

Fifteen hours until the official Trade Period begins.

Assuming that we do not offer up Grundy or De Goey our main aim would be to get enough points/picks to ensure that we acquire Daicos, Kreuger and Lipinski by the end of the Draft season.

Lynch & Pick 36 for Kreuger & Pick 30 Geelong
Cox for Pick 51 (Brisbane)
Future second rounder to Gold Coast for Picks 43,55,58 (approx 720 points)
Pick 58 to Western Bulldogs for Lipinski

Would leave us with 2021 picks 30, 39, 41, 43, 45, 55, (2419 points)
Enough to cover Daicos (if he goes at Pick 1).

If not, we go into (minimal) points deficit for 2022...

Lose: Cox, Lynch, Pick 36 & Pick 58, 2022 second Rounder

Gain: Daicos, Lipinski, Kreuger, Picks 30, 43, 55, 58

All the fun begins tomorrow...

Trade week goes on for waaaaayyy too long.

Nothing of note will happen until the last few days like usual.

I think it’s time to grow some nuts and pull the trigger on Grundy.

DeGoey needs to stay.
Beware the swooping Magpie.

^Don’t see why we should trade for both Lipinski and krieger when we can pick one up in the PSD. Lipinski is the logical one since he has declared he wants to come to us

Lazza wrote:So every year clubs get value from their players measuring between good and bad. I get that but are you saying that this is the only indicator of the reason for their end of season ladder position?
No I am not saying that. There are other factors. But having a salary cap with a mandatory minimum spend means that clubs at the bottom of the ladder, who tend to have inferior lists e.g. North, are not getting great value for the amount of mi way they’re spending

Yes, they are not getting value. But wasn't long ago Melbourne didn't make the 8, and some contracts would have rolled into this year's Premiership.

But overall you are right, the minimum 95% forces clubs to pay extra or get creative by forward dating contracts.

I think it started back when cash strapped Fitzroy underpaid/sold off experienced players and kept bottoming out and receiving picks. It was a survival tactic.

As it stands today, any bottom club isn't getting value for their payers. But it's all relative. Its not calculated in hourly rates, like in most supporters worlds.

It's like Government allocated budgets. If they don't spend it, the next year they receive less... so whilst we perceive it as real money.. And we talk about players contracts as if we know what we are talking about .. In reality, it's not money as WE see money(lol),,, it's budget which keeps rolling in and out every year.

Once we get our head around this, we maybe can understand the flippant nature of pay scales/decisions to retain perceived or real ascendancy in Premiership windows.

Interesting to see what transpires this week. Our trading position is weak but our wish list consists of two players wanting to come to the club who won’t cost us much and we have the preseason draft to fall back on if Geelong and the Western Bulldogs are intransigent dealing with us. We also have the best player in the national draft coming to us. If you go back to last year when we traded out Treloar, Stephenson and Phillips I thought it gave us the worse list in the competition. Having invested through the national draft last year after 3-4 years of neglect it at least gives up hope moving into the future and through minimal trading this year for Lipinski and Krueger and the recruitment of Nick Daicos, it puts us back on an even keel with the rest of the competition.
