Assuming that we do not offer up Grundy or De Goey our main aim would be to get enough points/picks to ensure that we acquire Daicos, Kreuger and Lipinski by the end of the Draft season.

Lynch & Pick 36 for Kreuger & Pick 30 Geelong
Cox for Pick 51 (Brisbane)
Future second rounder to Gold Coast for Picks 43,55,58 (approx 720 points)
Pick 58 to Western Bulldogs for Lipinski

Would leave us with 2021 picks 30, 39, 41, 43, 45, 55, (2419 points)
Enough to cover Daicos (if he goes at Pick 1).

If not, we go into (minimal) points deficit for 2022...

Lose: Cox, Lynch, Pick 36 & Pick 58, 2022 second Rounder

Gain: Daicos, Lipinski, Kreuger, Picks 30, 43, 55, 58

All the fun begins tomorrow...
Floreat Pica..
Have to have a vacant list position for each of those picks going into the draft though don't we to activate their points value.

Nothing says we have to trade for both but my money would be on us doing that.

Our trading position is weak but our wish list consists of two players wanting to come to the club who won’t cost us much and we have the preseason draft to fall back on if Geelong and the Western Bulldogs are intransigent dealing with us. We also have the best player in the national draft coming to us. If you go back to last year when we traded out Treloar, Stephenson and Phillips I thought it gave us the worse list in the competition. Having invested through the national draft last year after 3-4 years of neglect it at least gives up hope moving into the future and through minimal trading this year for Lipinski and Krueger and the recruitment of Nick Daicos, it puts us back on an even keel with the rest of the competition.
I tend to agree that we have reset pretty well off a very low base.
I can’t help but feel the key to any rapid list profile improvement depends on the likes of Kelly, Johnson and Krueger ( assuming the trade gets done ) who all remain unfulfilled talents aged between 21 and 23. If any one or more of these guys kick on quickly, that would go a long way to fast tracking the reboot.

COLLINGWOOD and Gold Coast are poised for a significant pick swap that will help the Magpies secure draft points to cover a bid for father-son Nick Daicos.

AFL.com.au understands the Pies are set to land the Suns' picks 22, 46 and 58 in a trade for future selections in the second and third rounds.

It would give Collingwood a much stronger hand to not only cover the points for an expected top-three bid for gun midfielder Daicos but also more capital to land trade targets Nathan Kreuger from Geelong and Patrick Lipinski from the Western Bulldogs.

The Suns are willing to part with the picks this year and load up for next year's draft given their tight list and the unlikelihood of them using the selections at this year's intake.

Pick No.22 would become Collingwood's first pick at this year's draft, with the Pies currently holding a hand of 36, 41, 43 and 48.(AFL)

^ for a year we have morons who have no idea how the system works, carry on in social media - some working in the industry - saying we don’t have enough points for Daicos and can’t get him or have to go in deficit. This is just one way we swing it. Especially given how many kids we have already brought in AND we get the best kid this year.

There are two very good reasons why protecting our 2022 1st round selection is far more important than keeping our future second.

The first and obvious one is that any points deficit when matching a bid on Daicos would push back our 2022 1st round selection.

The second one people shouldn't dismiss is the possibility we lose a Maynard, de Goey or Moore to free agency and owing to our finishing position accepting a 1st round free agency compensation selection is preferable to forcing a trade.

Tom Morris reports...

As flagged earlier this morning by Foxfooty.com.au, Gold Coast and Collingwood are set to complete a pick swap.

The Suns will send picks 22, 46 and 58 in exchange for the Magpies’ future second and third-round picks.

It would help Collingwood work out its deals for Patrick Lipinski and Nathan Kreuger while also matching a bid for Nick Daicos.

With all of those picks, the Magpies would have 2940 draft points - enough to match any bid for Daicos - and could afford to spend pick 36 on Lipinski while still being safe if Daicos receives a bid at pick 1.

See a bit on AFL Live that Collingwood and Gold Coast are poised to do a swap
which will help secure Nick Daicos

Now how I don’t know but article says we land Suns 22 ,46 & 58 in a trade for
future selections in second and third rounds

Still can get Lipinski and Krueger

Also the article says Nick has nominated for father/son and a 4 year deal

I think protecting next year's first rounder is important and only something I thought more about when I read Swoop42's post above.

There is a reasonable chance we finish lower on the ladder again, and there is also some potenital that we lose a pretty significant player who would go somewhere else for a lot of money and result in us getting a first round compo pick (we have all seen how rubbery those calcs are). From memory the outgoing player has to be paid in the top 5% of the comp, and certainly Moore and DeGoey might attract that kind of contract elsewhere. (Demons ended up with pick #3 as comp when Frawley left...let that sink in)

Could reuslt in us having a couple picks in the low single digits next year and could be the last new kids coming onto our next premiership list.

Compensation is linked to our nominal finishing position regardless of whether we retain our pick. I assume that'd apply to a pick that was downgraded due to a deficit.

If we finish 17th again next year, GC come out winners with the 2022 draft. We’ll have a potential gun with Nick, but it’s still a gamble that could bite us on the arse. For us to totally win the deal, we’ll have to dramatically climb the ladder in 2022.

Yeah it makes a lot of sense what the above posters are saying. Trade out next year’s second and third picks for picks we need this year for Daicos, Lipinski and Krueger. That leaves us with next year’s first round pick which should be very valuable by next year. We can split that when the time comes for further picks or if we don’t want to do that, by next year there could be players we want to trade out for second or third round picks. Personally if I was Craig McRae I’d want to wait until next season to make decisions on players on our current list.
