Do you support vaccination mandates for workers?

No, nobody should lose their job for a personal medical decision.

Yes, all workplaces where people work together face-to-face should require full vaccination.

Yes – in fact, vaccination should be fully mandatory and it should be against the law not to get the jab.

I'm unsure / I haven't given this much thought.

Mandatory vaccination

Post by David »

I feel like I've already shared my views on this in other threads, but would be interested to see where other people stand. Do you think someone should lose their job for choosing not to get a COVID-19 vaccination? Has the Victorian government gone too far in the number of industries to which they've extended the requirement?

For those interested, here's information on who has to get vaccinated and what the rules are.

https://www.coronavirus.vic.gov.au/info ... vaccinated

And here's where the actual Public Health Orders, or directions, are found if you want to read the legalese bits.
https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/victorias-r ... s-covid-19

My view is, yes the directions are reasonable. Note, they don't say people will be sacked for not being vaccinated, just that they can't attend work. It will be a decision for each employer to make, what they do with people who can't work and a decision for people as to how long they can last with no income.

Governments put these kind of directions out all the time. Not that many years ago they mandated compulsory Working with Children checks for particular groups. Get the check or you can't work.

People have a choice to make. Get vaccinated or get a new job where they don't need it.

For years we have had it for polio and for travel eg Yellow Fever. If you do not want to get vaxxed you don't go. If the governement said if you do not get vaxxed without reason then you can not catch taxis (or uber), take public transport or attend sporting events, concerts etc. If the hospitality industry does the same and you can;t go to work you will soon be so bored shitless you will beg for it. Some people need to stop being dickheads,

It should certainly be mandatory to be vaccinated, absent a specific medical risk. No whataboutery is necessary. Anti-vaxxers take deliberate risks with other people's health, not just their own.

It should be compulsory, just like lodging a tax return.

I’m in WA where mandatory vaccinations for most of the workforce have been announced. There is a labor crisis here. My industry, hospitality, is affected and some of the staff have moved from aged care due to not wanting to be vacccinated (I am fully vaxed). The last school holidays were horrendous and I am literally having nightmares about not coping over the summer break. There is also no information about whether our customers will be required to be vaccinated.
Interesting that due to being older I was struggling to find enough work prior to COVID and due to the labor shortage I literally have more than I want. It’s like Dads Army is keeping the state going.
Also the school leavers are experiencing full employment, which has not existed since the mid 70s when I left school. Some of the behaviour being tolerated would not have been previously and I don’t think that’s a good thing for the long term.

I'm very surprised that after the initial roadmap had vaccination requirements, they have now decided not to mandate vaccinations for outdoor community sport.

BUT, greenie woke councils have the ability to impose their own Covid restrictions if they wish...
