P4S posted a link to where the Bills are, they were only put online yesterday and are being fast tracked through.

Some of the powers are similar to present, the transparency is better, but they can declare a Pandemic and continue it indefinitely on a 3 month basis.

I haven't seen any genuine detailed summary.

if they let the unwashed free and cases skyrocket, something needs to happen immediately. **** i say, unless they have a genuine health reason. you get to choose, vaccinate or miss out. its a no brainer, the greater good comes first.

lowering hospitalisations, lowering deaths for vaccinated people, less pressure on the health system, people who are level 1 elective surgeries are missing out on life saving operations. this comes first, not the unvaccinated by choice, ie with no exemption certificate, getting to sit down at a pub.

so no if you dont want mandated vaccination, all well and good, then you need laws to protect the selfless from the selfish.

the news today, a teacher shortage in NSW, because there are 7,000 unvaccinated teachers. 7,000!!! stuff the kids hey!
I don't have a fundamental problem with what you're saying, my concern is with the government giving themself the power to lock us all up again on a whim anytime next year because we're still living under a declared pandemic.

Anyway, to todays numbers.

Victoria.

1923 new cases, 25 deaths, 82,648 tests.
746 in hospital, 137 in ICU, 85 on ventilators
These numbers are staying fairly steady with a slight decline

The good news is that the 7 day average of daily cases is still tracking down. Deaths unfortunately will increase as they lag weeks behind the case numbers, the Victorian Government has declined to release the vaccination status of the deceased.

77%>16 fully vaccinated

NSW

293 new cases, 2 deaths, 89,678 tests.
381 in hospital, 83 in ICU, 38 on ventilators
Past 7 days has seen consistent daily decline in hospitalisations and numbers in ICU

86% >16 fully vaccinated

So the Pandemic Bill has been pushed through the lower house in 2 days, now to the upper house.

Anyone looking forward to another 12 months of lockdowns and restrictions?

Thing is, they don't have time to consult properly.

The current state of Emergency legislation expires mid December and can't be renewed, it needs to be replaced.

Last sitting day of the upper house is early December. If they miss that, they're screwed. All the public health orders lapse and they have no authority to reinstate them.

That's a fair point. What do you think they should do if it does get voted down?

What I think they will do is frantically negotiate with crossbenchers.

What I'd like to see is more genuine accountability on extensions in particular. I can see a government needs to be able to act quickly in a pandemic, but there needs to be much more accountability post that when there's time for genuine oversight. They can't be allowed to just keep continuing.

NSW has reported 268 new local cases of COVID-19 and two deaths.

This is down on the 293 new cases reported yesterday.

There were 82,840 tests in the 24 hours to 8pm last night.

A total of 363 patients are in NSW hospitals with COVID-19 and of those people 80 are in intensive care.

Of the state’s population aged 16 and over, 93.4 per cent have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 86.5 per cent are fully vaccinated.

For 12- to 15-year-olds in NSW, 78.7 per cent have had one dose and 56.7 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Open for 3 weeks, the predicated spike in cases and over run health system hasn't happened. NSW isn't doing anything magically different to Victoria so it's clear that if we get the vaccinations up, things will improve

The Final Lockdown-ends. Freedom Day 29/10/2021

Post by stui magpie »

So after more than 260 days cumulative in lockdown, Metro Melbourne is finally free at 6pm tonight. :D

Ok, so we're still going to have restrictions that would have been unthinkable 2 years ago, but I'll take it.

I'm loading the ute and going to Toc in the morning for a week. Monday off work, work from there Wednesday to Friday. God I'm looking forward to it. Might even try to get a game of Golf in while I'm there since my clubs are already there.

What have you been craving? What's the plans for tonight/tomorrow?

Visiting friends or family?
Retail Therapy?
Bunnings?
Going out to eat?
Getting to Regional Victoria?
Hitting the Gym?
Queuing up outside the local brothel from 5pm?

What's the first thing you're doing with your new freedom?
