Farewell #19 Arlo Draper

Post by Jezza »

Welcome.
Collingwood has selected Arlo Draper from South Adelaide with pick 47 in the 2021 NAB AFL Draft.

SELECTION: #45

Club: South Adelaide
Position: Midfielder/medium forward
Height: 186cm
Weight: 75kg
Date of Birth: 30/01/03

PROFILE

A classy mid/medium forward with aerial ability, speed and agility - can turn an opponent inside out. Wins the bulk of his possessions on the inside and is a classy ball user by hand and foot.

Draper’s natural agility and stoppage smarts are among his most appealing traits. At Under 18s level with South Adelaide, Draper was the side’s number one clearance player, with his positioning and ability to read the taps particularly noticeable.

Although his midfield craft is appealing, his versatility has seen him spend time in all thirds of the ground.

Arlo Draper (South Adelaide)

Height: 186cm
Weight: 75kg

A more forward-focused selection from South Adelaide, Draper is an electrifying prospect that is sure to warrant a selection come the opening night of the National Draft on November 24.

While still being capable of moving into the midfield, it's likely you'll see Draper utilised as a nifty option in attack for the early years of his career before an eventual experimentation of sharing his workload in the engine room.

Has been likened to fellow South Australian Connor Rozee by AFL list guru and Talent Ambassador Kevin Sheehan in the past, with whoever lands the speedster sure to hope for a similar return should they select Draper.

Injuries limited his exposure at the senior level of the SANFL, however Draper's sample in the Under 18s competition was more than enough for recruiters to gauge.

We pinched him from Essendon. Notice Dodoro throw his pen once we traded to get the pick before them. He wasn't happy.

Essendon had their hearts set on Wanganeen-Milera. Their next pick was going to be Sinn. The Saints took Wanganeen-Milera at 11 and the Port traded to get Sinn at 12, Essendon were spewing. They had pick 13 and ended up taking Hobbs.

Then it happened again when Collingwood traded to get in front and take Draper from under their noses. And they, again, were spewing.

^^^^^

That makes him a brilliant pick, possibly atoning the sad situation Collingwood experienced when they were all set to draft Joel Selwood before Geelong stuffed it up, leaving us to pick Ben Reid who wasn’t such a bad back up.

The theory that teams have purposely not made deals with Essendon this year has some merit. They got Kelly as a free agent, but were not involved in any trades during trade week or during the draft.

Are they happy with their list or is it true that every other team refused to deal with them?
