It wasn't actually paying for the test, QLD suddenly decided to stop accepting the text messages of a negative result and wanted actual certificates, which was the main source of the cost. They since decided to accept the text messages that they'd been accepting for the past 18 months.

Pfizer booster yesterday. Sore arm around the site as expected, but no other side effects this morning.
In the end the rain comes down, washes clean the streets of a blue sky town.

A different take on why we need new pandemic laws that's fairly uncomplimentary on the Andrews Government Health funding among other things. I'm not in that loop anymore so have NFI if it's accurate.

I don’t think it’s necessarily a case of do we need them, it’s more do we need the Andrew’s version of them or could they be a hell of a lot better!
One of the cross benchers had some very good amendments that would solve 99% of the issues with it, but Andrew’s has been unwilling to budge on most of those points.

^Just reading about it. More mutations implies greater transmissibility, but that's all that's known for now.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/world-59426277One scientist told me this was the worst variant they'd seen - look at it on paper and it's not hard to see why.
It is the most heavily mutated variant so far and is now radically different to the form that emerged in Wuhan, China.
That means vaccines, which were designed using the original, may not be as effective.
And some of its mutations are known to increase the ability of coronaviruses to spread.
It is early days and the confirmed cases are still mostly concentrated in one province in South Africa, but there are hints it may have spread further.

We had a massive roundup today to get last minute evidence from people who had their second dose in the past 2 weeks but hadn't provided evidence. Not like they hadn't been already asked or had no notice, so fkn frustrating. Complaining that you don't know how to do it when you've had 3 weeks to find a 10 year old to show you how just doesn't work.think positive wrote:https://www.9news.com.au/national/sydney-crime-merrylands-kidnapping-footage-released-police-vin-bid-for-information/938a5231-e4da-48a0-8691-9d1b45ebdc81?ocid=edm-nine.com.au-ninedaily--211124&mktg_scr=edm-ninedaily

So then we got a fake one. Damn. Having heard the back story I have some sympathy but still, dumb choice.

Bloomberg Daybreak on the new variant (video on YouTube): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCSMddRSgL8
Scary maths when you think it has 32 mutations in the spike protein and the Delta variant has 10. Mercifully, everyone's onto it earlier, but given the appalling lack of discipline thus far....

^Good point, Dave. Hopefully it doesn't mutate beyond the reach of current vaccines.
One thing that does infuriate is that unless there's a concerted global effort to pump out more vaccines, which I assume means letting these countries produce them locally or regionally, this will be the crime of the century, if it's not already.
I won't start, but you know what I'm thinking.
