OK, so they did skip Xi because it's the head of the CCP's name.

Party poopers, imagine the fun the media and others could have had describing the Xi variant. :P

Although I did see one comment on Twitter that simply said they're all Xi variants.

Looks like the freedom protests are doing their job in immunising the unvaxxed.
Nineteen people who attended the Melbourne “freedom” protests in November have tested positive for coronavirus, with one unvaccinated protester admitted to hospital.

Investigations into the people who contracted the virus are ongoing, but public health officials believe nine cases were infectious when they attended the protests and seven others probably acquired their infections at the protests. Only one of the 19 was fully vaccinated, while two had received one dose.

Agree with that.

Let us have 6 months of normal before you open borders. We are so intent on trying to get back to pre-COVID.

It just ain't happening.

More hopeful info, this time from the field:
After weeks of almost no Covid patients at her practice in Pretoria, the capital and epicenter of South Africa’s current surge, Coetzee said she suddenly started seeing patients complain of the symptoms on Nov. 18. She immediately informed the government’s Ministerial Advisory Council on Covid-19, and laboratories the next week identified a new variant, she said.

“I said these different symptoms can’t be delta, they are very similar to beta or it must be a new strain,” she said in an interview on Monday. “I don’t think it will blow over but I think it will be a mild disease hopefully. For now we are confident we can handle it.”

In the end the rain comes down, washes clean the streets of a blue sky town.

So looks like the Dandemic Bill will get through, albeit after a cross bencher got them to concede to making some sensible changes to improve oversight and reduce over reach.

https://www.theage.com.au/politics/vict ... 59dai.html

The first version had a toothless oversight committe chaired by the government and with a majority of Government members. The changes bring it into line with NSW and NZ where the oversight committee is chaired by the Opposition with a majority of non-government members
