Just got my 5G booster at the pharmacy, took mum along for hers at the same time.think positive wrote:All hell is about to break loose book your booster
Didn't care which but got Moderna. So far zero reaction. I'm a bit disappointed I can't create a Wifi hotspot or surf Netflix with my eyes closed yet, nor can I move metal objects with my mind, but I assume my superpowers will kick in soon enough.

There is an emergency COVID cabinet meeting tomorrow (it was supposed to happen in Feb), so you’ll probably know the answer soon enough, either way.David wrote:What do people reckon the odds are that our Sydney trip next week is going ahead?

It seems that way. And the South Africa story also appears comforting, although with a different age and protection profile, which is likely why they're still hesitant to say otherwise. What'sinaname wrote:Global cases started to increase October 7 and so far, deaths are going down.
The usual lag isn't playing out at the moment.
To give you an example of playing the percentages, from what I understand South Korea got its protection profile wrong by mistiming vaccinations, giving itself a high death rate with Delta. It was purely a case of bad timing. I mention this as an example of a fractional difference that had unforeseen repercussions. So, no sane health official can give a greener light, just in case, say, the greater percentage of elderly people in the UK or Australia, or people on cancer treatment or whoever start getting hit at an unexpected rate.
Then, as I keep harping on: regardless of the death rate, the number of infections will hit the systems - emergency, health, frontline, worker availability and supply chains, and ultimately inflation expectations.
One of the problems for public health comms is that people take the tiniest signal to confirm their personal preference, so if you indicate positive expectations, the fools will go out and spread it even more, crashing emergency systems or killing off people on some cholesterol drug no one realised has whatever reaction.
In the end the rain comes down, washes clean the streets of a blue sky town.

The problem is the fixation on infection. If we treated this like any other virus / disease and only seek medical attention when sick, we wouldn't be overwhelming anything.
Look at testing centres being overwhelmed. Not with sick people, but with people wanting to travel and those who think they have been exposed.
The only beneficiary are pathology businesses.
We could act this was with the common cold and have identical ramifications on emergency, health, frontline, worker availability and supply chains, and ultimately inflation expectations

Oh case numbers are going to explode, no doubt, but I can't see us going back into lockdowns or closing retail/hospitality during summer.think positive wrote:Booked for 29/12 day it’s duestui magpie wrote:Just got my 5G booster at the pharmacy, took mum along for hers at the same time.think positive wrote:All hell is about to break loose book your booster

They might be able to convince NSW to mandate masks in some situations in exchange for maintaining open borders but that's about all I can see coming from National Cabinet. NSW and Vic had already agreed to let fully vaxxed internationals straight back in with no isolation requirement, it's going to take a serious spike in hospitalisations and ICU cases to get the Eastern states to get draconian again.

There is no vaccine or treatment for the common cold, just a variety of things to treat symptoms.Dave The Man wrote:They Can Treat the Common Cold while with Covid they have nothing like what they can Treat it like the Common Cold. What'sinaname wrote:The problem is the fixation on infection.
