^Nope, wrong again. Governments are absolutely following specialists, not innumerate, pre-scientific religious fanatics. As just quoted:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-59758784The same analysis said that accounting for immunity in the population meant a 25% to 30% lower risk of visiting A&E with Omicron and around a 40% reduction in needing to stay in hospital for more than a day.
Prof Neil Ferguson, one of the researchers, said: "It is clearly good news, to a degree."
However, he warned the reduction is "not sufficient to dramatically change the modelling" and the speed that Omicron is spreading meant "there's the potential of still getting hospitalisations in numbers that could put the NHS in a difficult position".

this! Totally, it would be a so crazy to just get lax now, just ripe for an Explosion, still 7% not vaccinated plus those who can’t be, also, the other strains are still out there, even if omnicrom proves less deadlypietillidie wrote:^Nope, wrong again. I know a couple of families whose Christmas plans have been impacted by COVID.stui magpie wrote:Someone I know on Social Media who used to post here (Madness) has just been diagnosed with Covid.
Bad cold symptoms plus loss of taste.
Tested Monday, got the result today. She's got to stay isolated until December 30, so will miss Christmas. Understandably not in a happy mood.
Dropped around to see a friend yesterday and had to chat, socially distanced , in her front garden. Younger of her 2 sons had attended a 21st on Saturday and the birthday boy notified that he had tested positive late next day. The birthday boy had no symptoms but got a msg from someone he had been out with the week before that they were positive, so did a RAT on Sunday when they found out. My friends son is negative but has to quarantine until Boxing day so no family Xmas for them just a quiet lunch at home.
And just been to supermarket and saw another friend whose daughter just tested positive. Fortunately daughter is house sitting for friends who have gone to Qld for xmas, so no exposure at home. Daughter got it via a workmate who also attended the 21st. Plus my friends son is isolating as his girlfriend works at the same place & is waiting for test results. Again lucky that he has his own place. My friend was busy organising food and supplies to drop at the respective houses.

Refreshing take on things from the QLD CHO.
Omicron is well on the way to being the dominant strain, replacing Delta as Delta did to Alpha.
The vaccines already provide on average 90% protection against hospitalisation with Delta. Omicron is apparently around 40% less likely to cause hospitalisation (classed as requiring minimum one overnight stay) so I'm not feeling any doom and gloom but staying positive that we're almost turning into the home straight.
https://www.news.com.au/national/queens ... 24a91b9744Queensland has reported a dramatic surge in daily Covid numbers, with new infections nearly doubling to a record 369 on Thursday.
But far from panicking over the rise, chief health officer Dr John Gerrard says the spread is “essential” and “necessary” in order for the pandemic to evolve into an endemic phase.
“We all have to have immunity, you will all have to develop immunity and there’s two ways you can do that: by being vaccinated or getting infected,” Dr Gerrard said.
“But the early information we‘re getting is it seems to be a little milder and certainly the vaccine is protective.
“We’re not going to stop it. We’re going to just try and slow it down a little bit to enable people to get those third doses.”

I see that Domicron has reinstated QR codes and mask mandates after insisting he would never do this again.I suppose this has nothing to do with N.S.W having a record 5,717 Covid cases today, does it?
It reminds me of Gladys bravely holding out against lockdowns for a couple of weeks then finally accepting reality and going into lockdown when the delta variant was out of control in that state.
When will these people ever learn? You can’t pretend that a pandemic is over just because you wish that it was,The virus doesn’t work that way.You have to treat it seriously and take precautions no matter how irritating some people find them,

I hate how the Media does that as well. Covid is going to be with us for decades at least, but it won't be a pandemic for much longer. It's already moving to be Endemic like flue and cold.Dave The Man wrote:I hate how the Media does that as well. As I posted before, in 2021 we've had 10 times the amount of Covid cases than we had in 2020 for roughly 10% more deaths. The vast majority of people catching it are under 40 and they're the ones far less likely to die, even less likely again if fully vaccinated.
The next 3-4 weeks will tel the story, watch NSW hospitalisations. With case numbers exploding, the key measure will be hospitaliations and deaths. I expect them to increase purely because of the massive increase in cases, but if they remain within manageable levels we're no longer in trouble.

^I guess I would just want to be cautious about the period heading out of that 3-4 weeks should the positive data keep coming in. Not to the extent of locking down, but more to keep people mindful as tt will take a couple of waves of lessening impact to gain proper public medical/legal/actuarial/managerial confidence.
Also, hospitals still haven't caught up with delayed treatments and supply chains still haven't caught up with unmet demand. This means even small bounces due to people thinking the race is won are very costly because we still have a lot of sick people and supply to clear up. Every untreated person, undiagnosed disease or percentage point on inflation is still very costly.
It's also a risk to anticipate a linear lessening of impact as the data might zig and zag for a bit, or even potentially surprise to the down side with the odd unscheduled nasty wave.
The most annoying thing looking back is that the wearing of masks is obviously the simplest, quickest and least economically disruptive habit you'd like to have widely ingrained after a pandemic, but the level of care is just hopeless, at least here. Fast-track processes for research/meds/treatments/devices, as well as remote work, are probably the most positive things to have happened, but the latter doesn't help enough of the economy.

if your due now id just walk in or call and ask, today is probably good as people have other things on their mind, we are due 29/12 as soon as i saw the changes and the numbers climbing i booked, the places near our holiday house would not let me book a booster, a couple said not til the 17/1, i managed to get appointments at a chemist in point cook for the 29th so we will just come back for it. my hubby has a compromised immune system so i want it done pronto! the kids have to wait a month or 2.Woods Of Ypres wrote:guys how does booster work, can you just walk into a pharmacy or is there a number to call for a booking? thx
if your not due now, then get on line and book before chaos reigns supreme and the system dies! tip: its easier to go to an individual chemist site than through the gov site. i booked through direct chemist outlet.
