Back in Melbourne after a week, first thing I noticed is mask compliance has improved.
Large numbers of the tourists in Toc were blatantly maskless in the supermarket, smaller places who pushed back apparently copped abuse but the mostly middle aged women in the supermarket just rolled with it. Apparently a local cop made a brief appearance out the front to remind people masks were required but soon as he moved on back to normal.
After getting home I had to do grocery and booze shopping and mask compliance has improved a lot. Staff and most customers were actually wearing them properly.

Recently I been Trying Mornington but Caught Stuff All and in fact sometimes not even getting a Bite. Last thing I caught there was a Squid.Woods Of Ypres wrote:DTM, I drove through Somervile yesterday to do some fishing at Stony Point Pier, although it was real windy I managed to jag a couple whitings.
do you know any other decent Pier fishing down your way ?
I have tried Hastings and Flinders with little luck.
I was thinking of going to Flinders but not got there yet.
Could go to Rosebud/Sorrento down that way for Piers.
How did you catch the Whiting at Stony Point?

caught the whiting using squid, I only use squid or pippi off the piers, i find whitebait/bluebait gets eaten up by the sea lice/ baitfish too easily.Dave The Man wrote:Recently I been Trying Mornington but Caught Stuff All and in fact sometimes not even getting a Bite. yeah i thought about rosebud/mornington etc but I assumed that side of the peninsula would have been chock full of holiday makers, hence stayed on the Western Port side.
stony point pier seems the best so far, but its crap how they have fenced half of it off for the ferry terminal. i don't remember it being fenced off when i was a kid.
Flinders seems OK, a bit too shallow for my liking. seen people catching squid there in the past. Last time i was there, some wogs told me its better at Balnarring? have u fished at Balnarring before? I havent tried it yet.

No one disagrees with the value of vaccines. Dr Nick Coatesworth however has become an epidemiologist who willingly subscribes to the theory that if we let Omicron rip, all will be well.MatthewBoydFanClub wrote:
Not according to Dr Nick Coatsworth in today's Age Newspaper. He predicts the COVID pandemic will be over sometime during 2022 due to the vaccinations and improved forms of treatment. He also states that the Omicron strain is much less severe than previous strains and even if you get it you're unlikely to suffer the same life threatening conditions from previous COVID. And vaccinations are still effective against the Omicron strain. You're more likely to get Omicron even if you've been vaccinated but you're much less likely to die of the Omicron strain, particularly if you've been vaccinated. I'm sure they'll be medical experts and epidemiologists who disagree with Dr Nick Coatsworth, but what all the medical experts do agree on is the benefits of the vaccines.
You are right, the epidemiologists disagree with each other.
Some epidemiologists (Nick Coatesworth is an example) believes that his career will be furthered if he tows a certain political line. Other epidemiologists believe the scientific truth is more important. it is up to everyone to decide which side of the argument is more meritorious.

Can't be all that dangerous when they hand out exemptions for athletes.think positive wrote:if you still think this covid wave is a non event, please read this, and just pretend its your relative

^ Djokovic's stupidity doesn't pose any particular health risk to Australians in most States and Territories, now. There were almost 50,000 cases Australia-wide reported yesterday. I wonder (idly - I couldn't give a rat's arse) if they'll let him into WA - that's a whole different risk equation.
This is emblematic of the abject failure of our politicians to deal with the latest variant, not an indication of the seriousness or otherwise of the disease.

According to Worldmeter stats in Canada, between 27 Dec and 3 Jan.Pies4shaw wrote:Canada has the same proportion of its poulation double-vaxxed as Australia does and a greater proportion of its remaining population has had one dose than in Australia. In the last week, in Canada, COVID cases have increased by 77% and COVID deaths have increased by 62%.
Infections increased by 16,081
Deaths decreased by 12
If you look at the 7 day MA, Canada cases increased by 18,014, and deaths increased by 11
At the moment, that's hardly alarming no matter how you look at the numbers.

To be fair, Djokovic being granted a medical exemption from getting vaccinated has nothing to do with how virulent Omicron is. The two things aren't related. What'sinaname wrote:Can't be all that dangerous when they hand out exemptions for athletes.think positive wrote:if you still think this covid wave is a non event, please read this, and just pretend its your relative

As far as the linked article goes, I can empathise with the old blokes family but his situation is really more about unfortunate timing than the severity of the current wave.

The Canadian numbers say that the previous high 7-day moving average of daily cases was a year ago and under 9,000, whereas the 7-day moving average right now is more than 4 times that number (over 37,000 today). Anyway, you would get the same information as me if you were looking at the Weekly Trends data in Worldometer - because that's where I'm getting my percentages. What'sinaname wrote:According to Worldmeter stats in Canada, between 27 Dec and 3 Jan.Pies4shaw wrote:Canada has the same proportion of its poulation double-vaxxed as Australia does and a greater proportion of its remaining population has had one dose than in Australia. Nothing will "alarm" you, I expect - unless you or someone close to you gets seriously ill from the disease. Given the odds, you'll probably be OK, so don't worry about it.
