yeah it’s ridiculous, and I will never queue for hours, no chance
Did it just over 12 months ago when Vic slammed the NSW border shut on new years eve. Had to queue up to get through a Police checkpoint then had to stuff around trying to get tested so I could start a new job when the nearest Covid case to where I'd been was 800km away.

Not doing it again.

Hence why numbers are meaningless and people will only isolate / stay home if they are actually unwell.

I do find it funny that the three stooges of lockdown have pretty much disappeared. Foley is the only one we hear from these days.

Did the drive through queue for about 2.5 hours on Xmas Eve. After a while ended up watching Netflix videos on the phone! The way they ran the queue you only moved every 20-30 minutes. Could never do a non drive through testing site.

At the risk of sparking a fresh bout of tourettes from the "Omicron is just like a cold" brigade (hi there, Nick Coatsworth), I mention that Australia has recorded 64 new COVID deaths in the last 3 days - and 106 in the last 7 days, compared with 69 in the previous week.

Considering 74% of those in ICU were Delta caes and 95% were unvaxxed the deaths do support Omicron being very mild for fully vaxxed people.

Lots of people are still clearly nervous though, Sunday markets this morning were quiet and a number of people wearing masks.

I was supposed to be having lunch at the local RSL today, but the son has a sinus infection and the grandson spent Wednesday with someone who's just tested positive. He apparently has a nose full of snot and is a bit off but otherwise fine, daughters partner isn't feeling great but any cold or flu lays her out like 10 pins. Daughter is fine, but best to postpone. So, I'm doing a roast lamb dinner tonight instead.

You continue your pessimistic approach (which has been consistently wrong) while, in the absence of demographic data on ICU cases and deaths, I'll continue to be optimistic and believe the various health experts.

If I die from Covid feel free to say "I told you so"

What “approach”? They’re just numbers. I can’t help it if you’d prefer others that were more consistent with the Pollyanna narrative.

Yep.

977,000 reported cases in Aus for 2357 deaths and 900+ of those were old people pre vaccinations back in 2020.

^ Now that we are out of lockdown, we are getting a better sense of how dangerous COVID is compared to all other illnesses.

We typically see 600 deaths per month in Australia from respiratory related illnesses.

We'll do well to get over the Omicron hurdle before winter and flu season hits.
