Farewell #33 Jack Ginnivan
Through a rookie selection
JACK GINNIVAN
Clubs: Bendigo Pioneers/Vic Country
Position: Medium Forward
Size: 183cm/77kg
Bio: Ginnivan is far from the finished product but might develop to be one of the better steals later in the draft. He relishes the contest and battle with his opponents, ducking and weaving around them when heading towards goal. He has the ability to hit the scoreboard and has a strong footy IQ. Ginnivan’s birthday is on draft day and he’ll be hoping his year ends with some good news.

Jack kicked 119 goals for Strathfieldsaye in a season. His old man was coach and moved him into defence to protect his own record of 128 goals in a season. Love the inherent competitiveness there!
Dare I say it......a la Pagan's Paddock....
Ginnivan's Island??
He'll never be Skipper!
Here's a great article telling his story.....

Jack Ginnivan resembles Luke Breust
Yes it is early days but can't help but see parallels between these forwards. Both selected down the order in Rookie Draft:
* Breust: Pick 47 in 2009 & 184cm & 84kg
* Ginnivan: Pick 13 in 2020 and 184cm & 78kg
They both represent the time-honoured recruiting technique of actually recruiting for a specialised position vs this new fandango "utility" jack of all trades approach which often ends up being a useless hybrid never mastering one or the other.
Luke Breust has kicked 441 goals in 239 matches and one can only hope that Jack Ginnivan can emulate half his record. Early signs are encouraging.
Thoughts?

Ginnivan reminds me of Geelongs Steve Johnson
Mainly because they play a similar type of game, neither look like the perfect football specimen, natural forwards, dangerous. Each capable of the mercurial X factor, good enough to snag those opportunities when they present.
If he continues the trend, we are laughing.
