Post by David »

<Split from the "whats the latest movie you watched" thread>

Apparently the Oscars are on today, doubt anything terribly exciting will come of it. ;)

For sure (I also thought Sound of Metal, which got a best picture nomination a year or two back, was also a very good film about hearing loss). Have you seen CODA, Eddie? Is it any good?

On the Chris Rock thing, how bizarre is it that Smith won the Oscar for best actor just fifteen minutes or so after that happened? Not ideal timing, to say the least! Wonder if Rock will press charges.

His wife has some condition alopecia that caused her to lose her hair, apparently GI Jane was bald? So it was making fun of his wife's hair which is caused by her condition that she apparently struggles with.

OK, cool. I missed that, GI Jane starred Demi Moore with the shaved head, so I get the comparison but didn't know the Alopecia thing.

Smith has copped some crap over his relationship recently, apparently she has other partners with his consent, I was leading that way and struggling.

Takes some set of balls to calmly walk up on stage and smack a presenter at the Oscars in the mouth like that and a bigger set by Chris Rock to react the way he did.

By now I would have thought Will Smith would be used to his wife being in the mouth of other men.

Groan,

That belongs in the jokes thread, it's as bad as anything Billy has done.

So Chris Rock's response should have been "Why, am I too old for her?"

People losing their minds over something that dint seem to contact very much, and most of them have a magnum in their purse and a shotty under the front seat of their car.

We've had this discussion but I'm interested in what others think.

Part of a comedian's job is to take the piss out of people. He apparently didn't know she had Alopecia, just commented on her hair cut.

Alopecia has different forms but it just means hair loss. It's not painful or life threatening. Blokes go bald all the time, If the Grim Reaper showed up tonight and offered me the choice of heart disease, cancer or alopecia I'm getting the clippers out and I like my hair.

She doesn't have a serious medical condition, it's a vanity thing about losing hair and even if Rock did know she had it, Smith was way over the top with his response.

If anyone condones Smiths actions, they condone anyone walking up on stage and belting a performer who says something that upsets them. Does that mean every stand up comedian needs a security guard standing behind them?
