think positive wrote:Yep BOG, NOT to mention inspiring the kids when they were getting tired, deserves all the accolades he’s getting right now.

Unless you hate him for no reason
In your opinion he was in many many others he wasn’t (check GB voting) it’s about perspective
I don’t hate Sidey far from it I just don’t think he’s the greatest player to ever play the game like some others
He’s a good footballer at the end of his career
A new coach has given him a new lease of life it appears
Whether he finishes at 275 or 612 games is yet to be decided
One thing is he’s playing better now than he has the past 2 years

More likely 612 than 275 - but can he play to 50? Maybe. He was never quick, so pace shouldn't be an issue.

Sidebottom was excellent yesterday.

Loved the smother at 8:00 in the video below which led to Ginnivan's goal. That was nothing short of brilliant.

Sorry but since when did GB medal voting become the benchmark for reality?

Maybe not BOG but he’s definitely rolled the clock back with his last 2 games

Coaches votes are out Sidey got 5 votes
The only way it calculates is he got 5 votes from 1 coach none from the other
We don’t know which coach it was
But it highlights the difference in opinion people have at all levels on his performance on the weekend
We all see the game and players differently which makes for great debate

Geez your getting ultra defensive
All I did was highlight that we all see it differently
Whether it’s me or a coach we both agreed he wasn’t BOG
1 coach agreed with you and said he was
We don’t know which coach voted which way
In the GB voting it was the same
Different strokes for different folks is all Jo

I hardly think commenting classes as stalking

So, the nub of your comment is what - only one of the coaches thought he was best on ground, so that proves he didn't play that well? Funny stuff.

Or we can pause on this and reassess at the mid-point of the season, when we'll have a 2022 body of work that can assessed objectively.
At that juncture we can evaluate his output against the top sides in the comp.

The form of the past 2 weeks is exactly what a player equipped with the skill-set and experience of Sidebottom should be delivering, and what we had known he's capable of.
The comments questioning his recent output aren't about his career, it's the past few seasons, where his impact had deteriorated to a point where there were more questions than answers, and if we had seen the best of him.
Posters asking if an ageing player in the twilight of his career, is delivering the output required, is completely warranted and have hardly 'transgressed the boundaries of the Great Seal of Nicks'.

The chiding received from the keyboard to those that have painted one of Nicks sacred cows, says the 2022 season is alive and well.

Mate read my comments nowhere did I say he didn’t play well I said IMO he wasn’t BOG
I made the comment the GB votes was the same some thought he was others thought he wasn’t (it was about 50/50 at that time)
Now the same with the coaches one did one didn’t
As I said people view the game’s differently including coaches obviously

If they all "declined" to the point where they could only finish 5th in the Copeland, that'd be terrible. How would the team cope?

The 2021 season we finished 2nd last and had 6 wins? Well, a more objective view might be look at the Brownlow / AFLCA votes.
Clearly a break-out season polling AFLCA votes in 2 games and 0 Brownlow votes.
But you clearly have an answer for everything, so it's probably a moot point.

2021 E.W. Copeland Trophy top 10:

1. Jack Crisp (90 votes) 22 games
2. Brayden Maynard (70 votes) 22 games
3. Scott Pendlebury (67 votes) 18 games
4. Jordan De Goey (66 votes) 20 games
5. Steele Sidebottom (59 votes) 21 games
6. Brodie Grundy (57 votes) 20 games
7. Darcy Moore (54 votes) 13 games
8. Isaac Quaynor (52 votes) 20 games
8. Jordan Roughead (52 votes) 17 games
10. Chris Mayne (48 votes) 14 games

2021 Brownlow Votes Collingwood:
Jack Crisp - 11
Jordan De Goey - 9
Brodie Grundy - 9
Scott Pendlebury - 6
Taylor Adams - 5
Jamie Elliott - 3
Darcy Moore - 2

AFLCA - 5 votes in 2 games
Round 12 vs Adelaide 3 Steele Sidebottom (COLL)
Round 20 vs WCE 2 Steele Sidebottom (COLL)

^ I'm not the one suggesting that a player who came fifth in our B&F warranted special scrutiny because he had, to use your word, "deteriorated". Yours is a reasonably silly position - and no amount of being cranky with the messenger changes that.

No I wasn't 'cranky', more frustrated with the trite response. Thankfully we have Mods to keep the bar raised.

Whether he was BOG or not and whether he gets votes or not doesn't matter.
I'm sure we can all agree he is playing good football. Those who said he should be sacked after one bad practice match a few weeks ago got it wrong. Fact.
