Let’s stop blaming umpires for losing games - we didn’t get the football in the last qtr. an early goal or two would have raised our spirits…

Realise that this is exactly where we are at.

Nah I’m blaming the ump for those shocking centre bounces that went sideways to Geelong and should have been called back for a throw up

What was the last free kick to Hawkins for?It seemed like there was nothing in it.Geelong seemed to be getting free kicks for nothing like that all night, even when they were behind.

Hopefully some valuable lessons to take away from this for the playing group and coaching panel.
Well that's the diplomatic evaluation.

Reality, too many players stuffed by last quarter, couldn't be arsed chasing their handbag opponent.

Game lost in 1st quarter obviously, with all that lairising and sitters on goal missed by the same idiot who cost us the 2018 Grand Final.

So many turning points in this game, with our inept disposal standard resulting in multiple unforced error ridden 2-goal turn arounds. And YES - by veteran senior players in particular.
Geelong's disposal standard was actually superior to ours all night, namely the field kicking and pin-point passing - that is where we lack polish in our system.

I can't ever recall a game with so many moments of excellence and effort, yet others that were utter face palms.

And that bearded %$^%$ umpire, well, Pendles picked him for a pro-Geelong cheat, who brought them back into the game on several occasions.
My head now throbs from screaming at TV, and that cheating SUCK.

Would love to know what Jack G said to Suckwood, to make the flog react that way allowing that 2nd shot on goal.

Such a disappointing loss; can't recall the last time we coughed up a 6 goal 3rd quarter lead, only to lose.
Reminded me of that loss on the siren to Brisbane last Easter.

So a goal-less last quarter, thanks to Elliott, on top of our 1 goal final term last week. This needs to be addressed, you'd hope.

Anyhoo - things are improving, the ball is moving quickly - just not as accurately as we need it to; but it will get better.

F&ck me - I HATE Geebung; bunch of f%cking actors led by Dangerflog and Suckwood. Glad Swans handed them their arses last week.

Best career advice I'd give Hoskin Elliott, would be f^ck off to another club.
You posters here who wanted him back in the team have rocks in your head.

And so, the 2022 rollercoaster takes it's first downward dip.

Our forward pressure was missing late in that last qtr.we needed to keep the ball in, but it came out too easily.

Were the young lads overawed by the occasion?

That's true Duke re: early goal, or even a late goal! In footy there are so many reasons why you might win or lose from that position, some you can control and some you can't. The clubs job is to worry about the ones you can control. We can worry about whatever we want, we have no effect on the players (sorry folks!). Someone has to try to keep the umpires accountable, why not the supporters?

The reality is the bounce of the ball influences the result of a close game! To say the umpiring doesn't is nonsensical...

I agree Duke but I don't understand what was a free last week was not a free this week and the holding the man / holding the ball interpretation that was used last week was somehow different. Have a look at that last goal - there were 2 definite frees to the Pies and then the Cats got one for not much . My goodness that is frustrating.

The bigger picture is we are definitely...ON THE MARCH!

Anyone on this forum who is blaming umpires for our loss tonight are deluded and one-eyed. Good football teams make their chances and then take them.

For everyone who cannot cope with losing this game the way we did, you just need to understand what was going on out there.

For 3 qtrs we chased, tackled and hunted like a rabid wolf pack and at the peak of our powers we were destroying one of the best teams in the comp, absolutely tearing them apart. Unfortunately, we don't have the tank to keep that going for longer, if we had the tank then this was an 8 goal win every day.

I can see the potential here, because we showed what we are capable of, we have a very high quality of footy in us, it is there, we just need experience, better fitness and a tougher mindset. All that will come over the next few years. There is no premiership in the next 3 or 4 years, forget that. 2018 was a shot the Buckley team look and they missed. This new Fly team is something else and it needs time to evolve. And it will. I'm excited.

Probably the best 4Q game I've seen Jamie play. Well done, son. He's developed the physicality and explosiveness required by the modern game, but we don't have enough senior players of that calibre to compete with a physical beast of a side like Geelong. There needed to be a few more like him come on from that era of recruitment. It's a waiting game now.
In the end the rain comes down, washes clean the streets of a blue sky town.
