I don't think anyone's trashed him, at all.

Maybe not totally trashed but the comments on p1 are hardly endorsing.
I understand they’re only opinions but you gotta put he’s debut into context. He had Moore & Keane for backup.
Dave’s comment is ridiculous.

He looks more ready than Henry.
Give him at least another week.
How did Bradman go in his first test? (Clue:he didn't make a ton).

As I said on page 1, I thought he did alright in trying circumstances, and would certainly give him another week....what would be the point in dropping him at this stage?

Saying a player doesn't appear ready for this level is not trashing a player...... Based on what i saw, he wont beneift from many games at AFL level this year. It was good to blood him so that he knows how much more work he has to do.

And yes, there is a small chance that it was just first game nerves and he will show more in game 2. That is certainly possible.

I'm all for putting games into a player if it is good for them. Putting games into McReery and Poulter seems like a no brainer. They will benefit from 5-6 game bursts followed by a few weeks to recharge the tank (remember they need a few pre-seasons before they can handle the rigor of a full AFL season)

For players like McRae, Wilson and Henry, i think its about giving them a small taste and hope they go back and work their butts off.

I think in time, he might be a good one. But he needs time and deserves time.

contrast this to Sier and C Brown, who have both had time and proven that despite having some very attractive skills at the elite level, are simply not AFL calibre players.

Thought he played a solid game and deserves to hold his spot.
He’s a blank canvas right now, so he needs a block of games in the seniors and then he either holds his spot for a bit longer or he goes back and hones his craft in the VFL. He’s a bit vanilla but 194cm and super fit is a good start to carving out more game time in the seniors.

There's definitely some talent there with Wilson. I hope he finds a position and makes it his. Thought as a third tall defender may be the go or as a defensive forward.
My only worry for him is his kicking. I saw him shank a kick in the VFL under no pressure then I saw it a couple more times since.
Accurate field kicking is key but there's heaps to like about the lad and as time goes by with more game time his confidence and belief will grow....so here's hoping.

When I have watched him at the lower level, his kicking has been good.

As a third tall forward he reminds me a bit of Tim Membrey of St Kilda and that's how we should play him, with Mihocek and Kreuger as our two main tall forwards. Personally I don't think it works playing Cox or Cameron as the other tall forward. Both to me are ruckmen who should play around the ground to help out Grundy. With discussion of how poor our forward line was on the weekend, people miss the point that Wilson was playing his first game there and WCE have one of the best backlines in the league. A forward line consisting of Mihocek, Kreuger, Wilson or Johnson, McCreery, Ginnivan, De Goey and Elliot is more than capable of kicking a winning score against any opposition in the competition.
