He will hit his contract trigger and we will need his unique skills set (if one includes height as a skill set) moving forward.
We would then have
Grundy- Ruck/Forward
Cox- Ruck/Forward
Cameron- Ruck/ Forward
The Pies could do a lot worse than to really drill Grundy in forward craft over the summer- If we could average 2.5-3 goals out of two rucks per game it would be a huge bonus.
Both Cameron and Cox seem to have an appetite for kicking goals.
Floreat Pica.
I don't think Krueger sits in the VFL next year while we play Cox, Grundy and Cameron in the seniors. Barring injury, Krueger is our tall forward, and I can't see how all four fit into the team at once.
He was gone a month ago. I am listening to his Podcasts and having a good laugh. He is one very intelligent and determined individual who loves a challenge.
For his sake I hope he makes it, but if he does make it, it's because he's learned to produce more consistent football. At the moment it's one great game followed by one mediocre game, or one great quarter followed by one mediocre quarter. At current output Mason will lose his spot when Grundy returns to the side. However if Mason could learn consistency there may be room to play the three talls. He has to learn fast what Darcy Cameron is doing and replicate that.
Thought Mason was great against GC. He looked like a professional ruckman, and was far more effective than Witts. If this level of performance is his standard level of performance, there is no doubt that he will make it to 100 games.
16 games to go. Hopefully he doesn't get stuck in the nervous 90s.
Players in the nervous 90s include:
Billy Serong (98)
Charlie Pannam (97)
Doug Gott (97)
Brian Taylor (97)
Percy Rowe (96)
Len Fitzgerald (96)
Stan Magro (96)
Stephen Patterson (96)
Kevin Worthington (95)
Jack Carmody (94)
Rhyce Shaw (94)
Adam Treloar (94)
Sharrod Wellingham (92)
Travis Varcoe (92)
Levi Greenwood, Tom Phillips, Tom Langdon, Rupert Betheras, Glenn Freeborn, Luke Ball and many others are all stuck in the 80s.
Would have really liked to see a lot of those guys make it to 100.
FWIW, Checkers has now played 93 games for Collingwood. Providing things go well, he'll play his 100th later this year.
Is it correct that he has triggered a clause for a contract extension into next year? He might go back to being surplus when Grundy returns... (before maybe Grundy gets traded!!)
