What an incredible milestone for an equally incredible player. He has been such a pillar of strength and source of exquisite skill for our team over such a long time. The stats quoted by other posters attest to his astonishing attributes as an AFL player. I hope that our performance against Adelaide measures up to the significance of this occasion, and provides him with even more reason to celebrate this milestone!!

Thomas was highly lauded indeed by the recruiters prior to the 2005 draft.think positive wrote:We took daisy over him!
Pendles snuck under the radar, but ripped it up in the reserves prior to his debut against Brisbane at MCG; goal with his first kick too.
It was the same games Lonie's hospital pass to Caracella ended his career, thus costing us a critical mid by the 2007 finals.

From memory, Pendles wasn't seen as a top 10 pick so a lot were surprised we selected him as high as we did.think positive wrote:We took daisy over him!
Fantastic draft selection in hindsight.

It's probably not a stretch to suggest Whorethorn, with Pendles wearing #8 instead of Ellis, may very well have claimed our four-peat in that time, while we are still waiting in limbo for another flag since 1990; and that's 32 years - oh the irony!Jezza wrote:From memory, Pendles wasn't seen as a top 10 pick so a lot were surprised we selected him as high as we did.think positive wrote:We took daisy over him!

My recollection is that they missed more than they hit - they were just lucky that they hit some incredible players - Hodge, Mitchell, Lewis, Franklin, eg. We would have been pleased to recruit 2 players of that calibre in the same period.Jezza wrote:For all the talk of Hawthorn nailing the draft in those years, 2005 was a poor one for them (Ellis and Dowler).
