It's good to know this has been completely sorted out, now:
An autopsy found that eight US police officers shot an unarmed black man 46 times, including five times in the back, when they opened fire during a traffic stop three weeks ago, a medical examiner says.

He was running from police, and had a gun in his car, wonder if he was known to them?
46 shots is a bit of, um Overkill, , but I’d like the full story.

The full story is that trigger-crazy police fired 45 bullets at an unarmed man who was running away from them and being black in public. Why dissemble?

They didn't know he was unarmed, they apparently heard a gunshot when they tried to pull him over and allegedly found a gun in his car.

Apparently no drugs or alcohol in his system but it took 45 shots to bring him down  test him again

... in which case they should put 46 bullets into his body in a variety of locations as he was running away, just in case.

Heavily armed Texas police cower for an hour in a school corridor when children have or are being slaughtered.

If only the offender was black, fleeing and unarmed. They'd be heroes!

^ It beggars belief that you wiould think there could possibly be another side to that story. There isn't. Only an authoritarian toadie would think otherwise.

You understand that "authoritarian toadie" is a term of art in the literature of social psychology - it's been in the discourse for around half century? It's a technical description, not an insult.

https://www.thebulwark.com/the-shooting ... narrative/

This a bit more detail than the standard ABC / Guardian narrative.
a few things they missed:
Tasers ware used but failed
The ethnic identity was probably not clear until after the shooting.
why was he wearing a ski mask?
He appears to have discharged a firearm on the freeway during the chase; this changes the procedures that the police were authorized to follow.

Questions likely to be asked: where did the majority of the rounds hit? if they were going for the legs instead of centre body mass then that would explain why so many shots were fired. (Most US cops have Glock 22's with 15 round mags.)
Was it safe to discharge that many rounds in that location?
Other than the Taser what other non lethal options were available?.

Was it overkill? probably; but the considerations of the officers were for their safety, many having probably gone to funerals of officers shot by already injured suspects during arrests.

Whatever the outcome of the enquiry the Guardian is unlikely give all the details.

American police have a helluva lot to answer for. The overreach is huge. It’s also very hard to remove police. The overwhelming majority of police are fine, very few actually shoot people, the culture is less fine and the practice even less.

I listened to this podcast recently (when driving back from Sidanee) which is quite revealing:
